2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

I also received an email today that I received the scholarship. So happy and honored!!!

I am always searching for a trend and it seems high GPA and EFC of 0 are getting their replies. I have a GPA of a 3.3 :/ hopefully there is room for us on the lower spectrum!

Yeah my best guess is the higher GPA's are going 1st... I keep checking my email like a mad woman!

Hey guys! I'm a np student with an efc of 0. I was just emailed today that I got the award. Congrats to everyone! This will basically save my financial future. I could not be more ecstatic.

Congrats to everyone who was awarded the scholarship!!!! I sent in the other documents yesterday and it now states that my status is "Final Review" beyond ecstatic!!!

I received an email last week about being selected for an award. I sent in the forms and my bank info. I also called to get some clarification on a question I had. The rep told me that we would hear back in a couple of weeks. I'm just wondering when we'll actually get the money because my school starts on September 23, but I'm pretty sureI 'll have to have everything paid way before then. There's something in the guidance about all awards being disbursed by November 30. I'm just a little confused lol.

School: Pennsylvania

A couple questions for people who have received the scholarship:

- How important are factors other than EFC? Like grades, volunteering with the underserved, etc?

- Do you have to be just admitted, or actually enrolled in a program by the deadline?

- I would be applying for a psychiatric MSN-NP program. I'm looking at the map of jobs, and there are actually quiet a few approved sites in my direct area, but the nearest posting for a PMHNP is 3.5 hours away -- are not all the jobs listed on NHSC jobs center? Is it possible to find more jobs by calling around to approved sites?

Ahh I really want to get it! Do you guys who got the award all have good credit? I'm just wondering how heavily they weigh that. I think I am a pretty competitive applicant (efc 0, gpa 3.78) but my credit is spotty due to a couple of isolated incidents. This would be such a lifesaver for me!!
