2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

Published

I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

Anyone else confused about the wording? The email said that I had been chosen to receive a scholarship, yet on the website it refers to me as a "finalist"? When I called today to ask a few questions, the woman said "congratulations on making it this far"...? Anyone else a little confused by this?

I called Nurse Corps today and they said that we should hear back way before September and that they will be in contact with our school's financial aid office. The rep told me that I shouldn't apply for a loan.

I'm confused too because I have to have tuition fees paid by the beginning of September, and I don't think we get our money until November. Does that mean we have to take out a loan, and then the scholarship pays our tuition directly to the school and we give the money back? Wondering if anyone can clear this up. =)

Yes! It's somewhat annoying, but I'm guessing they have to word it as such until all our documentation is reviewed. The rep said that they are just making sure everything is accurate and preparing our paperwork for the secretary of health to sign off on.

Good to know! I talked to my financial aid office today too, and she said it all depends on when the money will be awarded. Someone from my school won the award last year, and because we have to pay our fees the first week of September, he had to take out a loan because their payments didn't go through until November. I don't mind taking out a loan, especially if I know the scholarship would cover for everything. =)

But if we get our payment earlier, we won't have to worry about the loan! If I hear anything more I'll post on here to keep everyone updated!

Hi Guys!

New to this thread. I see a lot of RN's heard back about the scholarship, just wondering if NP's heard back. I'm in a direct-entry NP program at MGH in Boston.

Thanks and good luck!

Hi britters5,

I'm a NP student in a DE program and I heard a few days ago, if that helps.

Okay, good. So it sounds like the vague wording is precautionary and if we got the email (assuming the rest of our paperwork checks out), we are most likely going to get the award? I certainly hope so, since I called my family to tell them after getting the email, I was so excited!

Are they sending out the emails in any particular order? I can't figure out a trend at all. A representative I spoke to on the phone said it's a good thing that I'm still "under review", but it doesn't sound that way from this thread! It sounds like a lot of people are already accepted or in final review! I'm a 3.8 NP student from Tennessee.

Hey guys. I am at an Accelerated BSN/NP program in Maryland. I was offered the scholarship on Thursday. Undergrad GPA 3.4, GPA for nursing school pre-requisites 4.0. EFC 0. Good luck to everyone!

I actually just heard that they are sending out the notifications in a completely random order to keep it fair. So I'm still praying hard over here!
