2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

I actually just heard that they are sending out the notifications in a completely random order to keep it fair. So I'm still praying hard over here!

Who did you hear that from? If they aren't picking randomly, then how is it "fair" to notify randomly? That doesn't make sense to me. Lol

No news here. Website was down Saturday.

When I called and asked about the status of my application, I asked about the notification order: she said it wasn't by GPA or EFC, but to who was assigned to your application (teams).

I spoke to a young man on the phone from their 800 number. I didn't completely understand what he meant either to be honest, but I assume he meant that the order in which you are notified is not necessarily related to your score as a candidate. Does that make sense?

I got an email last week about the award. FNP program in Indiana, GPA 3.88, ECF 0 and credit needs lots of work!! I do not believe that has anything to do with it! Congrats to all that got it!! I had my application just under the wire!! Hope this helps!!

I am confused about email stating u have scholarship and website stating finalist and then customer service stating u do not have the reward yet. Sorry you read the email wrong!! What?? Congratulations you have gotten a scholarship is pretty plain to me!! Very confusing process!!!

I received a "congrats" email but feel as though I can't rest assured that I've actually been awarded into the program as of yet. Reading the thread about last year's scholarship helped put my nerves to rest. Many stated a similar experience and claimed that all but one did get the award after receiving the "congrats" email. Now the hope is that we did fill out all our paperwork right and that there are enough funds to go around for all. Stats for those who are looking (BSN, 3.7GPA, 0 EFC, little credit, From Ca. going into FNP at UPENN 2013). Thanks to all who have been posting, it has been helpful...Is there a facebook group we can set up to help coordinate ourselves once we get the award? (positive thinking!)

I'm getting nervous now. Did they say why that "one" person was not awarded? Maybe issues with their school/program? Are they going to review all our paper work again or just the two documents we had to submit? I'm sure they did a thorough review before they made their selection, but who knows. The email they send is extremely confusing, especially since they tell us to wait to be contacted by them. Waiting games are not fun :(.

I am also starting at UPenn for FNP. I received a congrats email as well! I was wondering if there would be anyone else in the program with me that would also be a HRSA scholar.

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one confused. :) My next step is to contact my financial aid/billing office to find out when tuition and fees have to be paid.Then, I'll call HRSA again to see if I can give me more info on when I can expect the money to be reflected in my aid package. If it's much later than when tuition is due, I guess I'll have to take out a loan until I get the money, which just sounds like a headache. I'm still not sure how that whole them paying back the loan for us works. I have so many questions, but grateful for the award nonetheless :).

So they changed it to expected payment and I didn't have to take out loans. I won't have late fees or dropped from my classes. My tuition is due August 1st. Just talk to them. They know the government is good for payment.

Wow! Even though we are technically in the "final review" stage? I'm definitely going to call them and see if I can do the same. Thanks!

On the website, my status still says, "under review". I am getting worried that I haven't heard anything yet!
