I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.
I also applied to this program. I do have other financial aid in place now, but I'm hoping to get this scholarship. I'm in PA and we have a lot of qualified facilities in my area. I want to become an NP or a CRNA. If I chose the CRNA route, I have to do at least a year in critical care. Not surprisingly, non of these facilities are critical care so that means a two year detour from my ultimate goal, but I think IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT!! Come on! Free Education? Yeah I'll take that. I have goals, like putting my kids through college without them having to be burdened by loans. Me not having huge amounts of debt would help for sure!
Congrats to all of the awardees!
And fingers crossed, legs crossed, eyeballs crossed, knees bent and head bowed in prayer for all of us that are waiting!
I just don't understand how they are choosing recipients. The information on the website says it is income based above all. I have seen people with higher EFCs already receive their email. Mine still says under review. :-( I have an EFC of 0 and a 4.0 GPA.
I'm just anxious because I really thought I would be closer to "the top" of the list of recipients. I don't mean anything towards anyone else and congratulations to everyone who has already received their email.
I finally called myself. The guy was super nice! He told me that as of now most of the scholarships HAVE NOT been awarded yet and that the majority would be awarded this month. He also told me the main criteria for choosing recipients is financial need and disadvantaged background. He told me that if my status says "under review" then that is a good thing at this point because it means they havent got to my application yet. He said if it was no longer under review then I should be worried. He also said not to get stressed about what we read on these blogs and threads. Hope that helps some feel at ease. I know I feel better!

Are the "Congratulation" emails coming from the hrsa website? Just want to know what to look for. This is my first year applying, but another RN from my hospital got it 2 years ago and just signed on for her 3rd year. My application still says under review, but according to Quizzle.com, my credit has not been checked...Ahhh this is nerve-racking! Best of luck to those still waiting to hear!
