  1. All of my clinicals have been DEU experiences and I wouldn't change it for the world! We are the ones who do 12 hr shifts (vs 6-8) so we REALLY get involved with the patients. I also love the one-on-one interaction which allows for so much more autonomy. I literally get to feel like a "real nurse" every day because once you build trust with your preceptor you get a lot more room to act individually. The teaching is a hit or miss because depending what you value more (what happens in the real world VS what happens in the examples on your test) you're definitely going to get more of an "out of experience" approach vs pure academic. Also if it's a hospital you'd be interested in working at come graduation, the DEU is an excellent foot in the door and your preceptors will prove to be invaluable in recommendations! Needless to say, I'm very pro-DEU hahaha :)
  2. Im actually doing really well in my accelerated program, also 12 months ends in may... AND I have a 1.5 year old boy lol I'm considering an ER tech position because I personally feel like I could handle 1-2 extra shifts a week and the job outlook is getting scarier and scarier so its really a matter of what you think YOU are capable of.. I know for me, worst case scenario I'd drop down to B's with the extra workload which I'd be ok with esp for the benefit of a job lined up when I do graduate!
  3. This spring will be my last semester (out of 3) of the accelerated 12 month program! 18 hrs: Conceptual Approaches to Patient Care 3: Childrearing/Childbearing Theory (4) Conceptual Approaches to Patient Care 3: Childrearing/Childbearing Nursing Practicum (2) Conceptual Approaches to Patient Care 4: Complex Multi-System Nursing Theory (2) Conceptual Approaches to Patient Care 4: Complex Multi-System Nursing Practicum (4) Public Heath (4) Leadership and Management (2)
  4. Yes and no.. I took both classes together for a 2nd half summer session - in 6 weeks! so THAT was really rough more so because of the timeline.. however they do go hand in hand and I know my school made the point to match up the topics so that while we were learning the cardiac patho we were also getting the cardiac pharm which helped put the whole picture together and I feel like the classes together really reinforced one another.
  5. Really wish we could hear SOME sort of update! My summer session has been $20,000!
  6. Want: Peds, L/D, NICU, PICU, etc Don't want: geriatrics, LTC
  7. Yeah my best guess is the higher GPA's are going 1st... I keep checking my email like a mad woman! I'm 3.78 GPA EFC 0 Accelerated Missouri Fingers crossed for everyone!
  8. Yeah, when I applied my GPA was 3.7 so hopefully they're moving down the list in order of GPA and we get some good news soon! I have 10 months left (out of a 12 month program lol) and with total costs being $60,000 including books.. this scholarship would be a pretty big deal!
  9. Congrats to those who received it already and good luck to everyone else! I think the common trend so far has been GPA (lots of 3.87 people). So hopefully we get a few more happy emails today!!
  10. Wow that is fast! I wonder what everyone's school tuition is because I think that's what I have going against me...I'm in an Accelerated program that costs 55000
  11. I'm 2 months into my 12 month accelerated BSN program (crazy stuff)! And I'm in Missouri. This will be my 2nd degree but I also have a EFC of 0.
  12. I was wondering about this too! And as far as I understand it should be about this week that some of us may start seeing something, how exciting :)
  13. I'm starting my accelerated 12 month BSN program next week! So this will be my first and last "year" - crazy! I am very anxious about the workload but I'm really counting on it paying off in the end! Come on economy! Good luck to everyone :)
