I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.
Congratulations to all the notified applicants :)
I received my email today and am incredibly humbled, thankful, and blessed.
Best luck to all other applicants. I spoke with HRSA and they are still notifying applicants as they go through the process, well into August. So don't lose hope!
For applicants interested:
my EFC is 0

to those who know more about this scholarship, mainly for loan repayment, I just checking on this the search for eligible facilities link http://hpsafind.hrsa.gov/ and having a problem. Many searches for my state I can see mainly Health Centers listed but the public hospitals are not listed. Some searches just have low-income, county name an ID number, then designated, but does not have the facility's name. What am I suppose to be looking for in a search? Then once you search and apply how they they know you will be guaranteed a job at your chosen facility?
I in no way meant to be saying there were "so few applicants"....I'm really sorry if that's how it came off. I just thought I had read that last year there were 6000 something applicants, and this year there were around 2500. Obviously that's still a ridiculous....I was trying to be encouraging, but my apologies if it backfired.
Weird, though...when I log on to accept the award, it says that I'm a finalist, which doesn't actually guarantee the award....and then, yeah, asks for my banking information. So I don't really get it. I'm I in, am I a finalist, what?!Also, seems like there were many fewer applications this year than in the past...maybe because of the more stringent requirements on where you can work. You basically have to be willing to relocate, which isn't possible for everyone. Just saying, keep up hope, seems like many more folks will be getting e-mails soon.
I believe until you turn in all necessary paperwork it will say finalist. I was reading the thread from last year. Until everything is in that's what it will say.
