2013-2014 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Program

I know it is entirely too early but I wanted to get a thread going for all of you who are planning to apply for the NSP this upcoming year. I know it is becoming more and more popular and there are always questions and people wanting to share experiences and such so I hope this thread will become helpful! I have signed up to get the alert for when the application is available for the 2013-2014 FY and hope to meet others who will be applying as well.

They awarded a scholarship already? What did the email say? Wow, that's exciting. Congratulations!

Cupcake, it could be by region. If that's the case, I'm in Florida and my credit hasn't been checked, so I probably will not be receiving the scholarship. Oh well!

It said

Congratulations! You have been selected for a 2013 NURSE Corps Scholarship Program award. You were selected out of a competitive pool of 2,547 applicants who applied. As a NURSE Corps Scholar, you are a member of a highly dedicated group of nursing students committed to providing nursing care to underserved communities.

When I log into the portal it asks for my banking information and a couple of forms.

Weird, though...when I log on to accept the award, it says that I'm a finalist, which doesn't actually guarantee the award....and then, yeah, asks for my banking information. So I don't really get it. I'm I in, am I a finalist, what?!

Also, seems like there were many fewer applications this year than in the past...maybe because of the more stringent requirements on where you can work. You basically have to be willing to relocate, which isn't possible for everyone. Just saying, keep up hope, seems like many more folks will be getting e-mails soon.

Wow, it's happening fast! I just checked and no email and my portal still says under review. I'm in Colorado.

Omg I got it...feeling beyond blessed. ..this was my only way to finish nursing school this year. Good luck to all those still waiting.

Sonjaxlove, were you in an accelerated program and have you graduated yet? I just got offered the scholarship also and am looking to find people's opinions on job prospects. I'll be going to an expensive school in NY also, but it's an accelerated program.

Does anyone know if they are still reviewing applicants? I couldn't get a straight answer on the phone...

looks like they may have given out the scholarship to the best candidates first. I dont think they are done
