HR minimum requirements?

Published

Was called for 3 days in advance by hospital for an interview. Told to have sealed transcripts, references, resume, diploma, certificates, and usual id stuff. Told me they were very interested and interview would take 2-3 hours. I spent hunting and gathering, making an even more perfect portfolio (even used gray linen paper!) 16 yrs exp and good refs, had found some transcripts(proof of grades, and classes) honor roll certificate from college (16 yrs ago) and evals..problem is, the college couldnt provide me with all the originals in such short notice, 5-10 days it would take since my school was on the other side of the country. I arrived thinking everything I had with me would at least suffice to interview,as I have always had a good standing license. Thought I would at least get to meet the area manager/peers until able to receive said documents. After filling out even more paper work, HR director states, sorry, we cant have the interview, we need transcripts sealed and diploma "min requirements" I stated I understood and would try to expedite (but am at the mercy of registrars office)Since 2-3 hr time block set by staff, wouldn't it have been feasible to at least speak with me? I have never had this happen, especially after working a total of 19 yrs(3 lpn, 16 RN) Did state, "do you have my number?, we are very interested". I'd gladly have given a few pints of blood for genome extraction if there is any doubt about my identity. Just needed to get that off my chest. I have never had a hospital require all this after so many yrs..sad part is hospital is hiring this week.:crying2: Live and learn....

My last nursing job didn't require a transcript, thankfully. That was about 5 years ago. Must be a new thing.

This hospital's HR department is obviously is up to something. Transcripts for a new nurse maybe ok, but once a nurse has some experience, school grades are meaningless. Nursing is not a theory, it is real life. My feeling is that they did you a favor. I have read the resonses and I agree with the others that has posted: This is strange request. As long as a nurse has her license, that is her qualification to work.

This is crazy? Did HR confuse you with a new grad? I haven't had to provide transcripts for a job interview in 18+ years. I would have asked why they needed them when most likely they did a full background check on you before you even arrived for the interview? Makes you wonder how much experience the HR folks have at this place.

That's just plain ridiculous. It sounds like this hospital's HR is getting a little cocky with the whole employers' market thing. Really, making experienced nurses just through hoops like that and then waste the nurse's time? Don't sweat it... you don't want to work for a facility like that. Good luck on your next interview!

I recently changed jobs after being at one facility for 21 years.

I have been a nurse over 35 years.

The new facility required sealed transcripts from my school of nursing.

Got 'em.

So, they are required by some institutions.

I wonder why these facilities are interested in transcripts after 15, 20, 35 years. Do grades really influence their decision?

I don't know if they're so much interested in grades as in positive proof a person did graduate from said program.

But they can verify that with a telephone call -- they don't have to put the applicant through the hassle and expense of producing official transcripts ...

I've never been asked for official transcripts for a clinical position (in >25 years of nursing). Teaching positions will typically require transcripts with an application, but the posting usually states that unofficial transcripts are adequate for the application, and official transcripts will only be required when a job offer is made. I have unofficial copies of all my transcripts at home, but I've never seen the need to invest in (all my schools charge for transcripts) a collection of sealed, official transcripts to keep at home "just in case" ...

hmmmmm........ MY school closed over 15 years ago.......ya wanna try? lol

My original diploma school closed quite a few years ago, also. However, schools are required to make provisions to maintain academic records even when they close -- they don't just throw them in the dumpster out back. :) I know who is maintaining my records from my old (now defunct) school and how to get in touch to request transcripts when needed, and I guarantee you your academic records are somewhere, too.

Update......SOMEBODY must have said something to her because she called back to bring me in soon and said she understood about the short notice and appologized for the inconvience. Said we could work on the details after that.;)

This is how HR drones justify the names on their office doors.

If the hospital has a specialized Nursing Recruitor (some do) call them and ask for a little bit of common sense; especially of you have 15+ experience.

Certainly, somewhere in city government files.....lol......my thought, in my original post was that it increased the time problem....not making accessing impossible.....all in all it seems a ludicrous req.
