Was called for 3 days in advance by hospital for an interview. Told to have sealed transcripts, references, resume, diploma, certificates, and usual id stuff. Told me they were very interested and interview would take 2-3 hours. I spent hunting and gathering, making an even more perfect portfolio (even used gray linen paper!) 16 yrs exp and good refs, had found some transcripts(proof of grades, and classes) honor roll certificate from college (16 yrs ago) and evals..problem is, the college couldnt provide me with all the originals in such short notice, 5-10 days it would take since my school was on the other side of the country. I arrived thinking everything I had with me would at least suffice to interview,as I have always had a good standing license. Thought I would at least get to meet the area manager/peers until able to receive said documents. After filling out even more paper work, HR director states, sorry, we cant have the interview, we need transcripts sealed and diploma "min requirements" I stated I understood and would try to expedite (but am at the mercy of registrars office)Since 2-3 hr time block set by staff, wouldn't it have been feasible to at least speak with me? I have never had this happen, especially after working a total of 19 yrs(3 lpn, 16 RN) Did state, "do you have my number?, we are very interested". I'd gladly have given a few pints of blood for genome extraction if there is any doubt about my identity. Just needed to get that off my chest. I have never had a hospital require all this after so many yrs..sad part is hospital is hiring this week. Live and learn....

Bless your heart! I wonder if HR learned that the manager was busy or forgot another meeting they had that day, and this could be their way of making you feel like it's your fault the interview couldn't happen. Who the heck cares what kind of grades you made 16 years ago if you've been successfully working for almost 20 years and have good work references? How petty!
Good luck when your second opportunity to wow them rolls back around! :)

Sounds pretty ridiculous to me. HR people know (should know) that you can't necessarily, typically get sealed transcripts from a school in just a few days (what if, like me, you went to school in an entirely different region of the country? Even if the school was able to put the transcript in the mail the day I telephoned (not v. likely), it would take a few days to get to me. Am I supposed to drive cross country to pick it up?)
In my experience over the decades, when a potential employer is that squirrelly about an interview, you've probably dodged a bullet by not having the interview and not taking a job with them -- they're often that squirrelly on an ongoing basis as an employer. You may be better off just continuing to look for a facility/employer with a reasonable HR department. :)
Best wishes!
Thanks, maybe this is GOD's way of telling me it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully tomorrow "interview" at another facility goes better.

Yes, it could indeed be GOD's way of telling you it wasn't meant to be. And, now you'll have time to get the needed documents for any other interview. I wonder what working at this particular facility would be like, based on the inflexibility of HR? Hmm...
Something that I've started doing---I keep several sealed transcripts so that if I have an opportunity come along, I at least have those.
Hang in there!

I have never been asked to provide any of that. Resume`, copy of my license and ID.....that is it. Transcripts???? That is stupid. I agree with the other posters in the thinking that maybe this in not the place you want to be if they are so inflexible and unrealistic and demanding. I say it was a blessing in disguise and also I would send a letter of complaint to the head of HR as well as the hospital's director of nursing. Just to let them know that they are missing out on good nurses due to their "requirements" and inability to be someone flexible to accomodate people.

Wow, I've always kept a copy of transcripts from both degrees in my portfolio, but, they are not sealed. Sheesh. Well, I guess I should go about getting a few sealed as well.
To all those who say that being a good student never matters, well, look out! It's not that way in a lot of places. Actually I'd love that to be a big first round elimination factor for new grads, as I gave up and worked my hardest for both degrees to assure good transcripts!
Thanks for your replies. They echoed what I was thinking. Maybe just a glimpse into what would have been in store regarding expectations and inflexibility. Yes rules are rules, but still think she could have been a little considerate....just another reminder of how the nursing field has changed.

I've been at my same job for 15+ yrs, but have worked at a few other places and have never been asked for my transcrips.
Is this common with non new grads?
