Hi, I'm a senior in high school and after graduation I was planning on getting my BSN and becoming an RN. I want to work in the hospital. I was just wondering if you're allowed to wear your hair down or if you're allowed to wear bangs? I have lots of layers, side swept bangs and my haircut frames my face. When I put it up (leaving my bangs and framing pieces down) it doesn't touch my shoulders or collarbone (which I heard wasn't allowed). Are you allowed to wear bangs in school and in the hospital? I honestly hate pulling all of my hair back and Im pretty insecure about putting my bangs back. So are you allowed to wear bangs/framing pieces as long as they dont get in your eyes or something? Or do they make you pull all of your hair back?thank you!

Seriously, not ONE person commented on these photos?!

Okay. Photo #1 could be a fomite mess if you lean one way or the other. Photo #2 might work, but #3 has the potential to kill one of the patients.

Then chances are, I would have appreciated someone having the Photo #3 hairdo today. The world would have appreciated it....!

You could always work in surgery-you don't have to worry about your hair if you cover it up! Or just wear a surgical cap on the floor and tell everyone you were pulled!

My hair touches my waistband and hasn't been cut in years but I still have "bangs" because my hair there just won't grow. It helps that I have a huge bald spot on the side of my head that everyone notices no matter what I do. I usually end up with a ball of hair with an extra pen stuck through it. Talk about functional hair accessories.

Uh oh. That must have been a bad day! I wonder if it's an accidental death due to hairdo, how responsible are we? JK, obviously.

Yes you can wear bangs.

You should wear your hair up...in nursing school that's usually a policy. Hair being worn down is a no-no.

At work, it's different. I always wear my hair in a ponytail...some coworkers will wear their hair down. I don't like to because it gets in the way...and if you have long hair, it might fall into some poop or something as you're cleaning up a patient.... :lol2:

If you're a senior in high school, it's going to be about five years before you've finished a BSN and become licensed. I am reasonably certain that you'll have a different hairstyle by then. And you'll have had a few years of clinicals to observe working nurses and how they wear their hair. I'm not aware of any hard and fast rules about hair styles at my hospital -- other than the one about how hair shouldn't be dyed a color that doesn't occur in nature -- but you'll want to keep it out of the bedpans. Out of your eyes is nice, too. Good luck!

I throw my hear into a high ponytail/bun and I usually always wear a headband just cause I have to look at least a little cute :jester:

Most employers aren't too strict on hair. Nursing school will have its own rules, but it seems like you should not have a problem with your current hairstyle.

Good luck with school!!
