How do you stay sexy in nursing school

Published

Hello all, I just wanted know how you try to stay sexy while in nursing school, going to clinical, or even working as a nurse. I see so many of us and we look kind of bland. How do you maintain feeling like a woman if your nails can't be done, with pretty polish, or you can't wear make up. So tell me what do you do to keep your sexy.

At the school I go to, we can't have nail polish, and nails have to be trimmed to the finger tips, but for good reason (nails harbor bacteria). We can't wear massive amounts of make-up, either, but natural make-up is allowed. Also, our hair has to be up and off of our necks. Thing is, I can understand this...

Imagine that you're at clinicals and you're doing a dressing change on a 75 year old client that has the thermostat cranked up to 85 degrees. The last thing I want is a load of make-up running down my face while I'm trying to be professional. It's hard enough to get clients to take a student seriously without adding to it!

But, I do miss being able to wear jewlery and perfume, however, yet again, I understand the reasoning behind those rules: rings can scratch clients (smooth wedding bands are allowed), necklaces can be pulled by clients and cause injury to the nurse, earrings in males can be offensive to older clients so it's fairest to just say no earrings, and perfume can cause issues due to many clients having allergies and respiratory issues.

The good thing is, we have lecture on Monday and Tuesday, and wear "business casual," with our name tags so we get to do the girlie thing those days, but not when scrubs are on which is for clinicals and lab days.

An easy way to still feel sexy? Do what I do, still wear my pretty bras and panties! Our uniforms are royal blue and can't be seen through, even when wet...

I try to watch my weight and work out to stay a little buff. I keep my hair cut about a 1/4 inch, close shave, and a slight tuft of chest hair visible at the neckline. If its a long day, I take my electric shaver and touch up at mid shift. Fresh breath and being clean are a must. I try to help my buddies when I can.

yes, i have a copy of her reciting her poem over some nice housemusic. it really brings out the positive spirits!!!

man I have enough trouble keeping neuro patients from grabbing my wobbly bits and making proposals just as I am that the last thing I want to do is throw some sexy up in the mix

This was the best reply so far! Made me crack up! :lol2:

I take a shower before each shift, brush my teeth, and wear deodorant. I usually pull my hair back in some way, but sometimes wear it down. I wear natural makeup. My scrubs are clean and in good condition. I don't wear earrings anymore because I lost one while taking off an airborne mask. Actually, I only wear my wedding ring and my watch. NO FRAGRANCE! NO ACRYLIC NAILS!

I like some others' ideas like wearing sexy undergarments, having a pedicure, etc. We have to wear all-white tops and either white or navy pants. So, I mix it up by wearing cute socks and/or cute shoes.

This job is just too hard to be worried about being sexy. I just don't feel sexy after digitally disimpacting an old lady who can't poo, or cleaning up an old lady 9 times in one shift who has no problem pooing, or suctioning mucous out of someone's lungs, or running a bloody code, or dressing stage IV pressure ulcers in a septic patient, etc, etc, etc. At that point, the only thing I can think about is getting home, getting a hot shower, and getting in my bed.

Wow what time they get up? Cause my make up takes me 20 miniutes,by the time I wash my hair take a shower, eat breakfast, walk my dogs I'm arleady late to my work LOL or I'm a walking zombie. So I wash my hair every other day and put my make up on my days off!!! See I do a really detailed make up maybe that is why LOL:)

I don't know. Then again I live in the deep south, where the women here don't leave the house unless they have perfect makeup and hair. I just figure they have better time management than I do. :lol2:

First you need to learn that feeling and being a woman or being sexy, has nothing to do with "done" nails or makeup.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm from South Carolina.

I must say the salon I go to offers gel nail polish, its perfect as a nurse. Its like a regular polish but lasts 4-6 weeks no chips!

I am such a tomboy - I didn't even know this existed! Nursing school is one thing but the clinic where I work will allow nail polish. I just wash my hands so much that it is chipped before an hour goes by. What is the point of that. I am going to find a local salon that offers this! :D

Well, we're allowed to wear makeup at my school, just nothing too outlandish or heavy. We're also allowed to wear whatever we want when we're not in lab or clinical, so I take advantage of those days.

I also happen to think that scrubs look pretty sexy - on both men and women. Maybe I'm weird in that way.

I say you go for natural beauty and a put-together look - take good care of your skin, get a nice hair cut and take good care of your hair, press your scrubs and put the creases in the legs and sleeves, polish your shoes, get plenty of exercise and eat well, etc.

Tottttttlly agree. Maybe its cause Ive been around them my entire life but man, a good pair of nice fitting scrubs ( read: not tight, but properly fitting ) is super attractive.

Oh, I also find that really nice lingerie under boring clothes makes you feel better about the boring clothes. You're the only one who sees your undies (well, at clinical and school, anyway) so you can go all out with them.
