How old are you?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi guys, i am starting nursing school next year. I will be 29 years old then. I am kinda worry to be seen as an old fart. I know some people start their nursing studies later but what is the AVERAGE age?

Im 32, just took the Nclex-pn, when I was in school the average was about 33. My program was weekends and monday night, so most of my classmates were working adults with families and all the responsibilities. The majority of the weekday program had students that were much younger, no job still living at home with the parents. I did admire the weekday students that held down jobs and families. I originally wanted to do weekdays, but it was recomended to me to take the weekend course since I was the sole supporter of my family and had to work. They said there was a waiting list for weekdays but I could start immediately on weekends.

The oldest in my class was just shy of 60 and proud of it. Actually, she was the one with the most to offer, I loved her, great lady. Anything is possible if you just believe. :p

I am 39 years old and started back today! :w00t: I am married with two children, 18 and 16.

By the time I graduate with my BSN I will probably be about 41. I figure better late than never.

You guys are babies, I'm 51 I'll start my skills class this October.

Hi everybody! I'm a newbie to this forum. I just wanted to say that you're never too old to realize your dreams. I am 29 with a family-2 lil ones, ages 1 and 3 and my hubby. I am changing careers. I have a Bachelor's in Sociology, but have always wanted to pursue Nursing. I sometimes tell myself that I should have done that in the first place. Oh well, no regrets. I was just accepted into an Accelerated BSN program. I'm working on my prereqs now and will officially start the core classes in April 2006. When I graduate I will be 31, just a few months short of my 32nd birthday.

Wow! Lots of response to this post & I'm glad to see older students, like myself, going for it! Makes me feel like I belong more -- Just started my pre-reqs - I'm 41. There are quite a few younger people in my algebra class & that makes me feel a little out-of-place, but it'll be OK & I'm really excited to be learning again - even if it is algebra !

I'm 45 going on 26 (my B-day is next month). I have a 21 year old son and a 7 year old son. I had a very rough life and I am not happy with my life the way it is currently going. I know that I will not feel better until I have my nursing degree. Going to college to train my brain and the gym to train my body are my cure all, my true fountain of youth, ! I DON"T FEEL MY AGE AT ALL!!!!! ( Many people say that I don't look it either)

My new mottos: Better late than never! And....Feel the fear and do it anyway! Please get to school sooner than later and start your studies, you'll feel better, trust me. :rotfl:

I am 24 and have a 1 1/2 year old son. I am in a RN program and there seem to be more people over 30 in my class. Hey, I find my self being closer to the "older" people. Good Luck
