How old are you?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi guys, i am starting nursing school next year. I will be 29 years old then. I am kinda worry to be seen as an old fart. I know some people start their nursing studies later but what is the AVERAGE age?

I turned 30 in July this year. I also agree with the other older nursing students. I find that I love learning now. I mean sure, there's the hectic "Oh I wish this was over now" periods (usually during finals). But I worry what I'll do with my "spare" time when I'm finished with school. These two weeks I've had off between my summer classes and the fall have been making me feel like a terrible student. I am always thinking, "Don't I have something to study?"

I'm glad I started again. Sometimes I feel old, but you know, whatever. I've got better grades, and the determination. (not that a younger student doesn't)

Specializes in new mother/baby nurse.

I am 36 (and will be 37 in October) I am married with 3 kids- two boys 11 and 5 and 1 daughter who is 3 1/2. THis is a second career for me. I was a health teacher for years. I am taking my last prereq this fall and will be starting the nursing program in January. I will be 40 when I graduate.

I just turned 41 and the light went off; I have 2 kids in college and two kids in highschool. My husband finished his DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) last year and now it's my turn. I'm so excited to start (on the 29th) that I'm about to split!! I've been watching the Discovery Health channel for a long time but it's crazy now and buying old used books just to get a handle on what I will get to be learning.

3 years. I'm married with 3 children - 4 1/2, 12, and 16. I love school My kids think that I'm nuts sometimes (well o.k. more than sometimes), when I start talking about homework, lab projects, and lectures. :rotfl: They call me a geek!

Good luck to ya! It's NEVER to late to fullfill your dreams in life!

Guess I will be the youngin to post... I am 22 right now and will hopefully start the first year of nursing school when I am 23. From what I have heard the average age of many of the students in nursing school is around somewhere around 30yo. You will also find that many of the students in the nursing programs have children at home. I highly doubt that you will be considered an "old fart" in any way!!!!

I'm 39 and will be almost 41 when I graduate.

I wish now that I had started off early too. It would have been alot easier for me to get through nursing school without kids. It's great that you are making the decision now when you are young and going for it.

Are you going for your Assoc first or are you going straight for your Bachelors. So far, it seems that what I have found is the older students go through the Assoc program and the younger students want to go for their Bach straight away. I don't know why that is.
