I am 59 and thriving on pre-nursing classes! Guess I'll be older than Florence Nightingale when I finally get to practice! Hang in there all you youngsters - if I can do it, anyone can!!

Hi..I'm 29 y o married with a 2 yr old daughter, I only started taking my pre-nursing classes last January. I think one never gets too old when it comes to education. I know someone who went back to school to get a nursing degree after she retired :) She's on her late 60's now and works part-time in a nursing home

You are not old. I worried about the same thing. I'm 32, married with 3 kids ages 2, 4 & almost 9. I worried that I was going to be surrounded by a bunch of young kids in their early 20's and late teens, who would look down on me. The truth is, I have ran into alot of pre-nursing students and the majority are moms in the late 20's to mid 40's. At the nursing advising session at my college, there was about 200 people in the room and the majority seemed to be middle aged women. This seems to be the norm for the nursing profession.

I'm 28, will be 29 in September and I just began an LPN program. In my class most students are adults with families, only a few straight outta high school. Good luck to you!:)

10 years from now I don't want to be looking back asking myself what I should have done.

Good for you! You should be proud, and hey, there's NEVER an age too old to start nursing school, in my humble opinion. I'm 28, and frankly, sometimes I feel a little too young to be doing this! Life experience can only enhance your skills (though I do know some awesome "young'un" nurses in their early twenties - compassion can be any age).
By the way, I noticed you were from Alberta - what school are you attending? Hubby and I are seriously considering a move to Calgary - we were there for a week this July and fell in love with the area.

I take it you went to the Calgary Stampede? Yep, Calgary is a pretty nice city. I lived there for many years. Don't have to even leave my town to go to school since they brought the nursing program to US!!. Now how could I pass up a chance like that eh?
Calgary has tons to offer, plus Banff and Jasper closeby. Nice to meet you. :)

I will be turning 40 in September and will be entering Lehman College BSN nursing program in January. I feel that as an "older" student, I am really enjoying learning and am much more disciplined than some of the younger students who are in my classes. I am married and have 3 kids too. My only fear is being physically able to keep up with the demands of nursing school and nursing. Any suggestions for keeping up the stamina??
