The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

Started college at 18, started nursing school at 21, am now an RN at 23.

I too am an older student and have as much energy as many of the younger students. If you want to learn and give it your all there is nothing stopping you....57 starting the RN program in Aug. All pre reqs done. Good luck to you!!!

I just turned 43 (May '14) and start my pre-reqs for the ADN this Fall... that will take until April, so I will be almost 44 when I start the program. :)

I started the program at 44 years old (an accelerated ADN program). I will be 45 years old when I graduate. From there I am going to an accelerated MSN program. I already have a bachelors degree. This is my 3rd career. I've always wanted to be a nurse. So I am very happy.

I was 29 starting pre-req's.... I start Nursing School in the Fall. Whoo Hoo.

Sounds like my plan!

Specializes in ER.

25 years old when I started my BSN program. Ages at our school ranged from 20 to mid 60's. I think personality, stress management, and study habits were a bigger factor than age when it came to student success. Everyone was awesome. I felt really lucky to have met and worked closely with so many cool peeps.

I start the ADN program this Spring (I am trying to get moved up to fall). And I will be turning 42 the month I start. I was a hairdresser my entire life so I never went to college. I had to start at the very beginning. It took me 3 1/2 years Full time to do all my AS and nursing pre-reqs. I also did my pre-reqs for the BSN program, I hope to transfer to during my second year. We have a bridge program here. I ended up with two AS degrees. I wish I was younger but my kids are finally old enough for me to go to college. I worry I don't have the fresh brain of a 20 year old but I am going to give it all I have.

I am so glad to hear that so many women of a particular age is going back to school. I have been a LPN for a number of years. I am 54 years old, I have BS in Health Education but cannot find a job with it, so I am going back to school to pursue an RN degree, but though I was a little to old to go back, but after reading your post, I am feeling better and enthusiastic, but the other thing is I have to re-take my biology classes over because they are over 7 yrs old.

21 when I started Lpn school and will be starting Rn school in a couple months at the age of 26

I graduated from the ADN program last month at age 59 and will be sitting for the NCLEX-RN on July 2nd. What an adventure this has been.
