May be personal question but I was wondering what the "average" nurses take out in student loans?

Roughly 10,000 for LPN program.....will be paying for quiet awhile!

Don't remember the exact amount. Seems it was around seven thousand between two separate loans. I do, however, remember that I took the maximum amount that I was approved for. Also maxed out the cash advances on every credit card that came my way. Along with my multiple jobs, I was busy. Those were the days.

$40,000.00 for 2 bachelor's degrees. After consolidation, it runs almost $200.00/month.

Specializes in ORTHOPAEDICS-CERTIFIED SINCE 89.

Prepare to be amazed: My BSN program was $13 semester hour. I did 2 1/2 years there til hubby got drafted & we moved away.

When we returned I did a 2 semester ASN for less than $900.

Of course that was while the dinosaurs were dominant and I rode to school on the back of a mastadon.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I borrowed $20,000 to attend a private LVN program at a Southern California vocational school in 2004; however, this loan has since been paid off. I am currently paying for my classes at the local community college at $50 per credit hour with cash as I go, so I currently have no student loan debt. In less than 1 year, I have accrued 31 credit hours and am very proud of myself! ;)

I have a total of 7500 in loans from an ADN program. The hospital I will be working at will pay for my BSN degree, I would not have it any other way. There are scholarships out there for nurses, and I received one from the Illinois department of public health. Money is out there to aid nurses to earn their degree and I would recommend everyone to take advantage of what is available.
