Thank you everyone for your responses. This is really disheartening! I currently make $17 per hr in a non-nursing field and the thought of not becoming financially liberated EVEN after working so hard to get my BSN is depressing. I live in the chicagoland area. I was thinking that BSN grads make over $33 per hr over here. I did not ask anyone but that is what i thought.

A new grad in Chicago will start at $25-27 in the hospital. Chicago hospitals are also becoming increasingly BSN focused, so you are likely to become employed much more quickly.

Plus you get pm, night, and weekend differentials.

So, right now you are looking at a salary increase of ~$16-20,000 increase per year, and that's before the differentials. Not too shabby.

Hi from Jacksonville Florida. At my hospital new grads make $20-22 per hour. The $22 is usually is specialty areas.

My cousin who graduated with BSN got hired at a magnet hospital in Chicago about two years ago for about $35/hour if I remember right. Not sure about shift differentials.

Then your cousin is VERY LUCKY!

I work at a Magnet hospital in Pennsylvania. I work weekend days, I make roughly around $34.00 and hour. I also work quite a bit of over time as well, we are so short staffed that most of my OT is double pay. So right now I'm doing pretty well. I've been there about 2 years now. New grads BSN or ADN, make exactly the same. I have my BSN, I believe they start out at about 24-25 an hour, with shift differential.

The other issue gonnaB37nursedoc is that you currently make $17 but I'm assuming you've worked in your field for a while. I have a non-healthcare BA and earn $15/hour. I'm great at my job. I don't want my bosses job. However because I live in a small city and there aren't a lot of opportunities for advancement, I'm at the top of my pay grade at $15.

$25 - 27 is starting pay for a new grad nurses. Once you have more experience it can lead you to more, and better paid, opportunities.

Nursing isn't the lottery, but healthcare is one of the few areas where women have substantial career opportunities.

In AZ, no difference in pay for BSN vs. ADN where I work. New grads here have been between $23/hr and $30/hr. Average is around $25/hr. Some of the hospitals are only hiring BSN's now and even if you already work at my hospital but want to change units, you must have a BSN to transfer. Having your BSN may help you find a job sooner. Good Luck!

Anyone share the hourly rate in SoCal ?

Right now, Chicago hospitals are starting new BSN grads at between $26-27 per hour (plus about an extra $3-4 for night shift and $2-3 for weekends). So If you work nights you'd be at around $30/hour.

I'm in SE Tennessee. SNF is 17.50/hr and Acute Care is 18.50/hr.

In southern MO, pay is around the $19 mark for a BSN/acute care. No idea what LTC or clinics pay.

Western Colorado is around 23$/hr and I think that's for both ADN and BSN.

I am in Louisiana at a magnet facility and make $0.25 more for my BSN, not much but it brings my hourly rate to $20.00, weekend and night diff is an additional $5. I am a new grad, I kind of expected to get paid less in the beginning and work my way up with experience.
