I haven't been a school nurse for a year yet, but I'm curious how often you all have used an AED since you've been working in the schools?

Never. And to my knowledge the 3 we have have never been used. Knock on wood.

Think of the AED like a fire extinguisher. Not many people have had to use them, but when you need one woo!

I have used an AED about 20 times or so, but that was as an EMT. As a nurse never.

Never and hoping it stays that way!

Never. Never given an epipen. I'm fine with virgin status on both of those.

I've never used an AED or Epipen, and hope that I never have to. The nurse at a neighboring school saved a man's life last year with her AED, though.

Most AEDs in schools if ever used, are used for visitors to the school (grandparents attending school activities, ect) or on employees.

I've never used one in the school setting. A few years ago a staff member passed out at another campus. The campus nurse hooked it up on the staff member even though she was still breathing and then got more scared and confused because the AED told her "no shock indicated" and "begin CPR." She forgot a normal cardiac rhythm is not a shockable rhythm so, to the AED, CPR was indicated. We didn't kid her about it...for a little while.

Never used and AED other than for training purposes. Actually reminds me of the last time I recertified in CPR when I worked in the hospital and our AED trainer was broken so my partner (a fellow ER nurse) and I decided to talk for the AED (PLUG IN PADS!!!!!!! ANALYZING!!!!! DO NOT TOUCH PATIENT!!!!!) and make all the noises much to our delight (and I'm sure the delight of our instructor and fellow CPR classmates).

I lost my Epi-Pen virginity last year x 2.

Never for the AED - thank you Jesus! Once for the EpiPen - but it was on my own kid about an hour after having allergy shots.
