How many programs and semesters did you apply for before finally being accepted? What was your GPA/ TEAS score?
I came back to school in Fall 2015 to take some prerequisites, then I applied for 3 local schools, but didn't get accepted. My GPA was 3.75 and TEAS 82%. I decided to take 4 more classes which are required in other schools' program. This year I applied 10 schools. So far I got accepted by 2 schools, on alternate lists of 2 schools, got denied by 1 school. The results from the rest won't come until late May or June.
Is your GPA/ TEAS still the same?
During my first stint in college, I was wait listed twice by my school's extremely competitive BSN program. I was pretty discouraged, didn't want to transfer schools, and ended up earning a BS in Community Health Education instead. After a few years in a corporate wellness job, I decided to make the switch to nursing and apply for the ADN program at my local community college. I had a few pre-reqs that had expired, and needed to take a CNA course before I could apply. It took me about a year to get these done, then this March I petitioned to start core nursing classes. My program is a little bit odd in that they don't take GPA or TEAS scores into account when awarding program seats. It's all about the number of people applying, whether you have completed all the pre-reqs or still have some in progress, and when you applied to the program in a pre-nursing status. I found out last week that I had initially been named as a Fall 2017 alternate, but a student forfeited their spot and I am officially in! So it's been kind of a long, weird road for me.
I was just accepted last month into the one aBSN program I applied for, had a backup school in mind if I hadn't gotten in that I would have had to take a CLEP exam for the chemistry requirement before applying. My 16 credits of General and O-chem from my first degree have expired as far as nursing school apps are concerned. So one and done for me.
My GPA from my first degree, Biology, was 3.27. I got all A's in the pre-reqs I needed (18 credits) and two classes from my first degree still counted towards the other pre-reqs with an A and A- (6 credits). Scored a 92.5% overall on the HESI. I completed the 5 pre-req classes I needed with online classes at my local community college while continuing to work full-time from February 2016 to December 2016.
I got into the only cc I applied at with 4.0 on all pre reqs and 87 TEAS. The weird part was how the pre reqs make your life harder by needing to go in a certain order and not all being offered every semester. And I couldn't apply until March 1 after I had FINished them the previous year! So I basically sat out a year. But I'm in now!
