Dosage question
Ok so I want to make sure my mind is on the right track, especially when it comes to admin. insulin. (FYI I have my first dosage test next Monday-1st semester in nursing school) So the question is: The physician orders insulin lispro 17 units subcutaneous. The medication is supplied in 100 units/mL. How many units will the nurse administer? ________ Shade the syringe My thoughts: There is no conversion in units when it comes to insulin. Soooo....I was thinking the nurse needs to admin. 17 units (my answer) as stated by the physician. The syringe is in units so I should shade the syringe to 17. Now if it wasn't an insulin medication but some other liquid medication that needs to be injected that is in units then I would of course use a different syringe (besides the ones specific for insulin) but I will convert those units into mL. Only in insulin injections there is no conversion, so whatever that order is that's what I need to pull out of the syringe.... So the order is 17 units and I need to pull 17 units out the insulin syringe Am I on the right track?

Failed my first test
I have my first Fund. test this Monday coming up. An 85% is high to be honest, my school at least req. a 77% © in order to move forward. Do you get another chance to take it again? I know my program allows 2 tries before you are out the program. If your program does then try again. Don't beat yourself up. If this is something you want to do, then move forward and learn from your mistakes. Sending you good lucks you way!

Adn or bsn ? Need help choosing!!
So, here are my thoughts: Option #1 If you are fresh out of HS or never have a bachelors then try for your BSN. Option #2 If you have a Bachelor's in something other than nursing but want to change careers then get you ADN. Now if you picked Option #2 think about this If your GPA is not great after graduating with your bachelors and you want some experience then proceed with the ADN. You can still further your career and get your masters but now your GPA will be better (if you do will in nursing school) and you will have work experience (which some master programs require). Or you can skip the ADN program and just take the GRE and apply to master programs that accepts people with other bachelor's degrees. Some you can obtain you BSN and MSN in one swoop other skip the BSN part and give your masters. I hope this helps!

Should I work weekends during nursing school?
If you don't have to then don't. I'm starting nursing school this Fall and I have to work. I did quit my full time job but I found an amazing part time job that allow me to work like 4 hours (8 hours on Sunday) on the weekends. So if you can find a job that allows you to still study and have a life outside school then take it!

Why is A&P so hard?
So everyone above has great advice. I would like to add that you can search crash course on Youtube plus use quizlet as well. It helped me with AP I and II.

2nd tb test is freaking me out
Update! My 2nd test came back positive so I got an cxr done the same day. I just got a called from my doctor that my cxr was negative, but I'm prescribed medicine in order to prevent active TB from happening! I'm just happy I'm not spreading TB around (although very common to have) and to be honest I'm happy I found out so that I can take steps to prevent it. Thanks everyone for their response!

2nd tb test is freaking me out
Ok so I took my first tb test like a week or so ago. Nothing happen. No rise when shot was administered and skin was smooth as a baby's bottom for 2 days. So I took the tb test again on the opposite arm. Their was a slight small rise after test was administered but the next day I have a big welt that's about a nickle to quarter size rise with slight pinkish redness where skin has risen a little. It looks like a mosquito bite. No define bump in the middle and no redness on the outside of welt. I'm freaking out and trying not to but I see the nurse early tomorrow and it hoping it goes away. I know you all can't give medical advice but has this happened to anyone on the second test?

Yes that's the only class we are taking this semester. They moved Pharmacology I to the Spring. However, we still don't know what days our class will start but I think we will know the week before school starts.

Hello, I got Proficient on the TEAS as well but I didn't have enough time to retake it again. So my advice for you is to take it again to get a higher score if possible. My GPA wasn't as a great as yours, I had a 2.9 but all my prerequisite classes I had either an A or B in. Also, I believe my interview could have bumped me up. Good Luck!!!

Wondering if anyone has applied to Nashville State nursing program this semester?
No you will be fine. You can apply to the program and on the application you will see an option that states for example "Currently taking AP II pending the end of Spring of 2018." They will look at your completed classes, TEAS score, GPA, and interview then once Spring is over they will ask for an updated transcript before making a decision for acceptance. I hope I wasn't confusing lol
