  1. First of all, congratulations! I'm not a nursing student yet but I am also a single mother taking prereqs and I know how challenging it can be to balance everything. As far as how to tackle nursing school, I don't have much advice to offer , but I would assume having a good babysitter and support system would be important. Reading your post is inspiring and gives me hope that I can do it as well!.. I wish you the best of luck in nursing school!
  2. Thank you @LittleCa for your response, I really appreciate it! I'll make sure to not suffer in silence and ask questions about anything I don't know. I'm anxiously looking forward to all the things I'll be learning once I start.
  3. So I just got hired onto a SICU unit at a hospital. I have no experience as a CNA and wanted to know if anyone has any pointers on being a CNA in a SICU unit or a CNA at a hospital in general. Thank you in advance to whoever responds!
  4. Thank you all for your responses, I enjoyed reading them. I don’t know any nurses personally so this website is my go to!
  5. To all the seasoned nurses, if you were able to go back in time and tell you're younger self one thing about nursing that you didn't know before you became one , what would it be?
  6. How exciting, congratulations! I wish you luck on landing a job (if you haven't already).
  7. Wow,thank you guys for commenting and congratulations to you all! I always like to hear everyone's story and the reality of how rigorous it can be to get into a nursing program. Your guys responses were truly inspiring!
  8. Hey allnurses ! I am currently a pre-nursing student who spends alot of time on this website. I was curious on how long it took everyone to become a registered nurse and what was your biggest motivation out of it all ?
  9. akulahawkRN Thank you for the advice ! I will definitely look deeper into the programs for what policies they have for W's incase I have the same trouble with another class.
  10. Thank you dderrrough! This Friday is the deadline to withdraw from any classes but I decided to just ride it out and try my best. I didn't know some programs will deduct points,..crazy!
  11. Hey all nurses! Im in desperate need of some advice. I am currently taking 4 classes in college right now,(Intro to psyc, public speaking, algebra, aerobics) I'm doing fine in most except public speaking. Im afraid I won't be able to get a B or A in it because of one speech I didn't do. I am debating if I should drop public speaking with a "w" or if I should continue and try my best to at least get a "b". I'm not sure how much it will affect my grade, it is the 3rd speech out of 5. I work 3 12 hour shifts at a place that has nothing to do with healthcare so they aren't very flexible with my schedule. I also have a daughter who is one and my boyfriend(her dad) who helps whenever he isn't working himself.I really don't want to slim my chances of getting into a bsn program. Any advice will be appreciated! Thank you.
  12. Thanks you very much! I just emailed whoever was in charge of the program. The closest one I found was in Riverside which isn't even far from me. It seems very convenient. Especially the summer intense one however I think I'll have to save up a little for that one.
  13. Thanks for the reply! And I've never heard of that program . I'll look to see if they have it in my area. I wanted to get my cna license this semester of school but my schedule is crazy right now so I think I'll just have to push it to next semester.

  15. Hey allnurses! I am currently a nursing major at a community college in Southern California. I've heard that it is very hard to get accepted into the nursing programs around here. Anywho, I know some nursing programs like to see that you devoted some time into volunteering so I picked up an application at my local hospital. The hospital told me that alot of the volunteering will involve clerical work and maybe some time on the floors like the ER. My question is, if I decided to volunteer and was only told to do clerical work, will a nursing program look at this as volunteering even though I wasn't able to volunteer on an actual floor?Sorry in advance if my question is silly.
