If you do know what it stands for, you know that it is obviously not a very glamourous topic:

BRBPR

This is an approved abbreviation at my hospital (is it at yours?). Recently, I have heard several nurses see this in nurses notes, etc. and said "what the heck does this stand for?" Upon being told the nurse often says "there is no way that is an approved abbreviation!" Well, it is.

The "FLB" meant "funny LOOKING beats" to some.

ER nurse here and never heard of BRBPR. Might be a regional thing, too. My favorite abbreviation (unapproved) is LOLFDGB. :D

Yeah I've heard it - bright red blood per rectum. Context is pretty helpful in deciphering abbreviations too.

In the ICU I see this abbreviation all the time in provider notes and even use it myself from time to time. It's one of my favorites :). Never heard of the bathroom privileges one, probably because my patients rarely have any.
