If you do know what it stands for, you know that it is obviously not a very glamourous topic:

BRBPR

This is an approved abbreviation at my hospital (is it at yours?). Recently, I have heard several nurses see this in nurses notes, etc. and said "what the heck does this stand for?" Upon being told the nurse often says "there is no way that is an approved abbreviation!" Well, it is.

Specializes in Hospital Education Coordinator.

this is one reason we are all going to electronic charting. Too many abbreviations out there.

Specializes in ICU.

SFTJOD= Snatched from the jaws of death. Our critical care docs would write this in their progress notes after a code, or after tubing someone and started them on multiple drips and such. Probably a regional expression.

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CICU.

Another regional abbreviation: DFO

Specializes in Cardiac, ER, Pediatrics, Corrections.

I'll admit...I scratched my head on this one. New nurse here! :rolleyes: I'll catch on!
