How many people here HAVE NOT become CNA certified before applying to Nursing school?

I know that it looks good and it is a great experience to become a CNA before going to nursing school, but who is NOT getting their CNA or got accepted into Nursing school without their CNA?

2nd semester in nursing school. Did not do a CNA course. Its not a requirement at my school or the other schools I looked at in my area. My school only considered GPA and TEAS V scores.

I don't have my CNA. I applied to 4 schools, got into 1. I do have direct patient care experience, though, through jobs in physical therapy and as an exercise physiologist, which I did get 3 (of 100) extra points for.

I'm not a CNA and won't be one. I don't get the point. That'd be like having to become a PA before an MD, an optician before an optometrist, etc. It's not a requirement in this area.

I also have not gotten CNA certification. I dont have hundreds of dollars to dish out for a CNA program anyways. The school Im going to doesnt require a CNA, but I have looked at quite a few schools that do. If it was so expensive I would complete a CNA program since it helps with very basic nursing skills.

No, but I have worked in the medical field for years. I just switched from scrub tech to OB tech/PCA for my own benefit, not to fullfill a requirement..

i did not - after passing our first semester of BSN (our fundies course to be specific) we are allowed to apply for our CNA license w/o taking the CNA exam. I know that most of my class - University of Maryland, Baltimore did just this. yes, there are a few people that already had their CNA license but most of us did not.

A lot of schools require having it (especially community colleges), but even if your school doesn't I would highly, highly recommend doing it. When I first decided to go back to school for nursing I thought that all a CNA did was wipe butts but you do SO much more than that- you really get to see what it's like working in a hospital or LTC setting and see if nursing is going to be for you. I didn't realize how much I loved patient care until I took my CNA class. Also, a lot of people who I was in the class with decided against going into nursing after taking the class. I think it's good to do so that you don't get into nursing school, decide it isn't for you, and waste your time and money. Good luck!

I got into my ADN program on the first try- however, it was a lottery system :) I did not have my CNA cert, but like Sandi said, you can get it after passing your nursing Fundamentals class. However, here in CA you do have to take the CNA cert test- you just get to bypass the whole CNA course (so end up paying $90 instead of $1000). I am taking the cert this Monday- I figured it was cheap, and I already know the material/skills I will be tested on - so why not?

Does anyone know anyone that will help someone study for the CNA skills test? I am coming from Washington and will be taking the CEP in Texas - the problem is the skills tested in Texas (the requirements both written and those that you would know only if you had gone through a training program in Texas) are completely different than here. For instance, here in Washington we only have 24 skills as opposed to the 34?? that Texas has. I need HELP!

I got accepted to BSN program at a university in PA (starting this fall) without being CNA certified, but I did mention I was part of a nurse intern program senior yr high school (2008)!

I am not CNA certified and don't really have much prior experience. I applied for an Accelerated BSN program in PA and will hopefully start in September (if they don't care that I'm not CNA certified and accept me).

My school requires the class but not to become state certified. I'm waiting for my test date.
