How Many Hours Of Studing Required For A&P1?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello my fellow wanna-be nurses! :p

So I am taking online A&P1 in Spring 11 and wasn't sure if I should take on Psychology along with it. I am a mom to a 4 year old and a 6 month old and I work full time. I know that A&P1 requires a lot of studying so I was wondering...on average, how many study hours per week does this class require? Please keep in mind I am not exactly a person who has A's come easy. I have always had to worked extra hard to maintain my 4.0. I know Psy is going to be fairly easy but my main focus needs to be on A&P because I have to get an A to get accepted in the nursing program here.

If anyone could tell me how many hours they spent each week on A&P1 and if they think I should take Psy 101 with an already busy schedule I would appreciate it.

Thank You!

alot but not to much i studied like an hour or 2 a day maybe 2 week days and saturday and sunday..i only had lecture MW and lab on Friday i only studied lab during school because thats where the models were. But back to the point I did put alot of time into it but not 15 hours a week like some people on this forum. But then again i had a hard teacher and got a B people on this site got As.

I took both semesters of A&P over the summer (5 weeks each) as well as Psych 101 (which was a 10 week course). My psych was online and was so easy that I spent maybe an hour per week completing assignments and tests. For A&P, I would study a couple of hours a day in addition to lecture/lab. It's hard to convert those hours into a normal semester, though. But I don't think that the two classes together during the same semester are difficult at all.

As a mom, I have gotten creative at maximizing my study time. For example, my boys would point to parts of their body and I would name them. They loved it, I learned the material and so did they! As much as I can incorporate the information into my daily life, I do. Also, I'm a notecard addict and I would tote those bad boys with me EVERYWHERE! The car wash, waiting in line at the store, waiting to see a doctor, those extra minutes before class or during breaks - all of it adds up.

I probably studied 4 hours a week and received a high A in A&P I. I knew other students that would study 20 hours a week and write note cards in 50 different colors and receive B's.

It just depends on the person. If you are able to focus more on *understanding* the material and less on *memorizing*, then you can probably drastically cut back on the study time.

My solid A in A&P 1 took around 10 hrs a week study, A&P 2 took a while longer.

I guess it depends on you. The general rule is 3 hours per credit hour, though I could honesty say I have never spent 3 hours per credit hour studying for any of my classes. I think in AnP I spent about 3-4 hours per week studying outside of class and got an A. But I am good at memorizing facts. It will also depend on your teacher too. For an example it takes more time to study from the book then to study from notes and if he tests from the book you have to spend more time reading. Also if you have homework that it will take more time.

One thing I do that helps a lot is to study from flash cards. You can carry them with you everywhere and as you master certain cards you can pair the stack down. Its my favorite way to study. :)

Like JonB04 said it depends on the person. In my case I didn't study daily, I just tried to study at least a week before any test. I would even study like 3 days before the tests, but wouldn't recommend it because I got a B on one of my tests for it. However, I finished with an A and it didn't take too much effort.

That was for my lecture class...for my lab i would study only the day before of my quizzes (I guess that I'm good at memorizing stuffs) and also I would go to the school like 2 hours before the class started and studied there too. It worked for me, but it depends on the person.

At the beginning I was scared of this class because of the amount of time that people here recommended to study for A&P, and because how hard this class was supposed to be. However, I found it to be easy and not as time consuming as people say it is.

I would also like to add that I'm a procrastinator and it is really hard for me to study, that's why I didn't study much. But you should wait until you see how hard you find the class to know what is the study method that fits you the best. You may not need to spend 4 hours a day studying.

So I would say that overall I would study for my lab class 4 hours a week, 2 at home and 2 at school. For my lecture class I only had 3 tests, so I would study like 4 hours a day with a lot of breaks between emails, Facebook, lunch and phone calls...lol..but like I said that would only be a week before the tests, and we had like 1 month and a week between tests.

So don't stress too much, just wait to see how it goes and decide later how many hours you feel you need to study in order to do well in the class.

I wish you the best and hope you get a big, fat A :D

None unless you're a male student nurse:) However I spent about ten hours a week studying for A&P...

Oh yeah and for anatomy draw and label, even if your drawings look like scribbles to everyone else it will help you visualize! If you school has open labs study there because those models, not the images in the text is what the tests will be on. Good luck.

ha whats that suppose to mean.

Yes! I have mentioned it before but the worst part of A&P for me was the anticipation of how difficult it would be. My first week, I forced myself to study for longer than I really felt necessary because I thought it was what I had to do in order to do well! My brain would shut off when it was done but I kept trying to study. After the first test, I realized I could cut back drastically on the study hours and still get As. Plus, like I mentioned before, with kids and a husband and life, I found it easier to get a few moments here and there to review rather than hours long study sessions.

A&P 1 is more about memorization. I barley had to study for my 3.9 but then again, I am good at that stuff and already had a good knowledge of the bones and muscles. However, other’s in my class studied their hearts out and barley got an A…so it really, really, really just depends on you and your ability to memorize things. I liked another poster’s idea of using your kids as a study tool lol. I would try and use the terms whenever I could and I would try and explain processes to people to make sure I understood it myself. If you can tell it to someone else, you can do the test.
