  1. Thanks! Your reply really helped me because your classes were online also. :)
  2. I just want to say...dont let anyone discourage you from what you want to do! I hate when I read posts saying "you might want to look at other career options". If the only thing you are worried about is overcoming needles you will be fine. I work in a hospital and talk to nurses all day and there are A LOT that had that fear to begin. And they tell me that nursing school is very VERY hard but if you want it you will work as hard as you need to get it. I think that it is a big step for everyone and we all second guess ourselves but if this is what you want you just have to take a leap of faith and go for it...no looking back! Good luck!
  3. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions! It has really put my mind at ease. All the A&P posts I read are always really intimidating and scary. lol. Now I feel much for confident to take both classes. :)
  4. Hello my fellow wanna-be nurses! So I am taking online A&P1 in Spring 11 and wasn't sure if I should take on Psychology along with it. I am a mom to a 4 year old and a 6 month old and I work full time. I know that A&P1 requires a lot of studying so I was wondering...on average, how many study hours per week does this class require? Please keep in mind I am not exactly a person who has A's come easy. I have always had to worked extra hard to maintain my 4.0. I know Psy is going to be fairly easy but my main focus needs to be on A&P because I have to get an A to get accepted in the nursing program here. If anyone could tell me how many hours they spent each week on A&P1 and if they think I should take Psy 101 with an already busy schedule I would appreciate it. Thank You!
  5. I just wanted to point out that she lives in Chile NOT chili. BAHAHAHAHA!
  6. my school offers an online bio 223 (a&p1) class. it looks like everything, including labs, are done online. the teacher actually lives in chili (i am in nv). this would work great this my schedule considering i work full time from 8-4:30 and would haveto take a 7-10pm class otherwise. i have my reservations on it though. i hear horror stories about a&p1. i always hear how difficult this class is so i worry that it will be even more difficult to do online. my one advantage is i have a girl in my current bio class who is going to take it so i already would have a study buddy. has anyone taken an online a&p class? what was it like? an advise or tips would be great!!! thank you!
  7. Well because you are due the week of finals, I wouldnt do it. I completely know how you feel about the whole situation though. I am due July 20th and wanted to take a summer class that would end a week before my due date and I decided against it. With my first I was a week late and even had to be induced but every pregnancy is so different and they always say your second one can come sooner. I even chickened out on taking a fall class that would start when my baby is 6 weeks old. It would be a huge risk for you to take because you never know when your body will be ready! And like someone told me, one semester really wont make a huge difference in the big picture. That is just my personal opinion though.
  8. I have a 4 year old daughter and I am due to have my second child on July 20th. I have been throwing around the idea of taking the pre-req for A&P1 this fall. It is a very basic class (intro to cell and molecular bio) with two lectures and one lab per week. So basically it would be Tuesday from 5:30-9:50 and Thursday from 5:30-6:45 (have to take night classes because I will be returning to work at some point during the semester). If I have my son on his due date, he will barely be 6 weeks old when class starts. I have to return to work by 12 weeks but might have to go back earlier if our maternity savings runs out. My husband is very supportive and helpful but I have to keep in mind he will be taking two classes this fall. I guess my question is, would you take a class when your baby was only 6 weeks old or would you wait until the spring when he would be closer to 6 months old? I dont want to miss out on time with my son but for some reason I just feel like I have to rush through all these pre-reqs so I can FINALLY be a nurse!!! I have been working on pre-reqs (more like pre-pre-reqs with all my remedial math classes) for a year and a half and just got done with my math classes so I can finally take on Science. so tell me...what would you do?
  9. Well I would love L&D, or Peds Oncology. I am still a pre-nursing student so who knows where my heart will take me once I learn more about different specialties. Who know...I have a LONG time to find out.
  10. I have always loved the medical field and have been in it almost since I could have a job. All my life my friends and family repeatedly told me I would make a great nurse. For some reason I didn't pursued it until now, I think I wanted to choose my own path and I was nervous to have other's lives in my hands. In the end, a few years ago my dad was diagnosed with cancer and I sat by his side the whole way through. Every doctor appointment I was there, every test, I was there and I think that is what really showed me where I belonged. It fits unlike any other career I have considered. Also, when I had my daughter I had an amazing nurse who really inspired me to follow my heart I hope you decide to follow you dreams, whether it be nursing or any other career path. When you have passion and love for what you do, you are a better and happier person!
  11. hello everyone, i am starting to worry i might be to emotional to be a nurse. i worked at a neurology office for 3 years at the front desk and i would cry almost every week when i saw one of our patients get worse or sometimes even pass way. i thought it was because i saw them consistantly for those 3 years and i saw them more as friends then i did as patients. so i moved on to where i am now, at a hosptial call center scheduling radiology appoitnments; no direct face to face contact with patients. but still, patients tell me their diagnosis or their personal stories and i break down everytime. people at work laugh at me and it's funny to them but it makes me question myself. i love the medical field and i always wanted to be a nurse. i used to think that my emotions would make me a better nurse but now i wonder if it will only bring me down. i can't be sobbing with the patient, i need to be strong as a nurse. i need to be the shoulder to cry on not the one crying. is anyone else as emotional as i am? how have you controled this? should i just look for a different career path? help!
  12. Wow! I am so happy you posted this. It is great to have some encouragment from fellow mothers out there juggling family, work and school! I also am 23. I have one child, a daughter who is 2 1/2. She is wonderful and I am lucky to have my husband to help out also but he does lose patients. He has been a big help because my family lives in WA. A few things that work for us is CROCKPOTS! I dont know if you have to cook for them but it is simple to just throw in the food and it cooks for you while you are at school or work. Also...kids need structure so it is easy for them if you set a slot of family time that they know they have you full attention. It makes them feel special and reminds them you havent forgotten them. I hope you have a family and friend support becasue it makes it so much easier. I am working on my pre-reqs and have a while to go. And I want another baby badly but I know I should wait. It is very hard and I worry how things will work when I actually enter the nursing program. I just pray pray pray and pray some more for God to give me strength and patients to my huband. I wish you luck and as long as you work hard and find a balance that works for your family you will be just fine! God Bless!
  13. Although my husband supports me in my career choice and schooling he does get VERY impatient. We have a toddler and I am so busy working full-time and going to school full-time he feels like all he does is watch our daughter, make dinner and clean the house. I on the other hand feel like I have a great balance. It is never easy when you have a family and have to go to school and work. Maybe try giving him special attention. I know you are busy but set a date night even once a month that you commit to. Even if it is just watching a movie on the sofa or making him his favorite dish at home. Make him feel special in some way. I really think that would help him be a little more supportive. Good luck!
  14. Hello Everyone! This is my first post so forgive me if I dont make sense. I am currently working full time at one of the hospital's in Reno,NV in Radiology Scheduling and working on all of my prerequisites for the nursing program. It has been a while since I was in school and I ended up having to enroll in remedial classes. I was mapping out all of the classes I needed to take before I could apply to the Nursing Program to see when I would be able to apply with the program. If I take three classes each semester plus a summer class I can apply in Fall 2011. What I was trying to get at is this...people have told me that I should take all of the BIO classes by themselves and completely focus on them to ensure the best grade. If I did this it will take me 4 years before I could even apply! One thing to consider is that even though I work full time, I have a good amount of time in between calls which I use to do homework. I am taking two classes right now and wish I would have done three because I am ahead on both classes. I am very motivated and REALLY want this.:heartbeat I am trying to be patient and of course I want the best grades possible but do you think I can take classes along with my BIO classes to speed things up? Am I being totally unrealistic? Does anyone know from experience if this is a good or bad idea? Thanks for your advise! Lacey
