We started with 60. We are now in the 3rd of 5 semesters and we are 29 or 30. The majority of the loss came in the 1st semester. Lots of reasons, some dropped out in the first two weeks (realized it wasn't for them), others had a problem with financial aid, some just failed out.
We are at our MidTerm for this semester and I know of 5 people who are failing as of this point, they need exceptinally high grades on the midterm and final along w/the 3 unit tests left. I don't think they are going to make it.
I'd be surprised if we graduate with more than 20.
I wonder if nursing school is really that difficult. I can't understand why people would go through so much trouble to get in the program and not go through the same, if not more trouble to stay in the program. I haven't even applied to nursing school yet and it just breaks my heart to hear that so many people who were accepted are dropping out while the ones who weren't accepted have to sit back and wait. I personally think it's silly.

Just be careful, don't assume that if you get in, you'll make it. I was fortunate enough to complete ALL of my pre-reqs before starting the program, and I can tell you now, if I hadn't, I would be in serious trouble right now.
I'm not being pessimistic. Granted, the vast majority that drop are not committed, but there is one girl in my class that had a near 4.0 GPA, had already completed an AS degree, smart as a tack, that is failing, and she has no idea of why, and I KNOW she is studying.
It can happen to anyone...and I'm not going to assume that just because I'm making it this semester, that I'll be ok the next.

It IS silly. It is crazy that ppl think that nursing school is going to be a walk in the park, just as easy as college was. I have heard numerous girls in my class saying "I can;t believe __insert instructor name here__ is making this so hard! I had all A's, STRAIGHT A's, in CNA school. This is just ridiculous." Well, honey, this ain't CNA school. We are taking care of critically ill ppl, it HAS to be hard. I feel bad for them, don't get me wrong, I just think that their attitude and whole approach is wrong.

We are almost done with our first quarter, (A &P and Fundamentals/Skills); at least 12 of my classmates (out of 45 at the start) are about to drop out due to failing grades. How many did you lose after the first term?
