How long is your program?

Published

Just curious, how long is your program?

I am starting my program on Tuesday, and it's a short program (at least I think it is). It's only 2 semesters long if you have already completed the basic prerequisites like A&P, psych and sociology, which I have, and a total of just 6 nursing classes. So all in all, I have to take 30 credits (15 this semester and 15 in the fall), and will only spend about 8 months in school total.

What about you?

Mine is 18 months full time

Specializes in LTC.

18 months with a summer break.

3 semesters. I start in August 2015, and should be completed by March 2016.

I wonder how each school determines the length of the program. I think my program still stands as the shortest in this thread at 2 semesters (about 8 months total). I have 10 hours of lecture a week, 4 hours of lab, and 15 hours of clinical. Is that more or less than you guys?

This is my breakdown for the 1st semester:

Total Credit Hours: 44

Wow! So you have 14 more credits than I do! My whole program is as follows:

Semester 1:

PN I and II (7credits each) and medication essentials I (pharmacology pretty much, 1 credit) I for a total of 15 credits

Semester 2:

PN III and IV (again 7 credits each) and med essentials II (1 credit), again, 15 credits total.

I don't know how your school works, but I also had to fulfill pre-reqs before actually being able to enter the program. They require that you take BIO, ENG, and PSY, and the TEAS. They then accept the top 90 students. It's pretty competitive. So not only am I taking the courses above, but the three I mentioned are also technically a part of the program. They operate on a point system that uses your credit hours x GPA + TEAS. My points total is 108, and they accepted applicants last year in the 91-117 range, so I am confident I was accepted, but will hold my breath until March when I receive my official acceptance letter.

Oh, I understand. Yeah, my program has the ENG, bio and psych requirements too, but most people have those done before entering the program so it only takes them 2 semesters. For me because of my psychology background and previous nursing program experience, I only have to take the nursing classes.

Specializes in Maternal Child, Home Health, Med/Surg.

My program is only 10 months long. We have long days, lots of material but it is doable.

I went to a trade school and mine was 15 months part time, so i had a chance to work and continue to pay my bills. I went to school 2 days during the week and 2 days on the week end yep no life no more going out none of that but im happy i finished in December and tomorrow im submitting my paperwork for the Ncelx exam , Good luck to every one .

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Psych, Geri, LTC, Tele,.
