How long is your program?

Just curious, how long is your program?

I am starting my program on Tuesday, and it's a short program (at least I think it is). It's only 2 semesters long if you have already completed the basic prerequisites like A&P, psych and sociology, which I have, and a total of just 6 nursing classes. So all in all, I have to take 30 credits (15 this semester and 15 in the fall), and will only spend about 8 months in school total.

What about you?

Mine is ten months. I graduate in 16 weeks! :D :D :D

My program is 11 months (Feb start to Jan), with approximately a couple weeks of break time here and there. It is M-F 8-3 with labs two days a week. I believe clinical is going to be two days a week once they start later in the year (most likely replacing labs?). Pretty intensive program, but not unattainable.

My program was 14 mos all pre reqs are included, labs and simulation,no breaks just for Xmas, our class went hard straight through, don't want to discourage anyone but I don't think I will ever take an accelerated nursing program ever again....too draining

Hi!

Here, in Quebec (Canadian province, not Québec city), it's between 15 and 24 months.

My program is 18-month long, with a 1-week break at Christmas and a 1-month summer break. So it's about 17 months long, full time:

  • About 9 months in school: 30 Hours per week, including labs (at least 20% after the first month, depending on the courses)
  • About 8 months of training in hospitals and hospices (is this what you cal "clinicals" ?) : min 35 Hours per week

Both excluding lunch break

Yep!

Wow, that's intense! But from my understanding, and correct me if I'm wrong, in Canada LPN programs are more like American RN programs?

We do both clinical (fieldwork in nursing homes/hospitals) and theory at the same time along with labs...so for example, in my program this semester, I had theory and lab on M/T/F (total of about 6 hours each day) and clinical W/TH (also about 6 hours each day).

My program is 11 months :)

My program is 15 months. It's a part-time program that includes 2 weekday nights (5 hours) theory and 2 days on weekends for clinicals. This was created for people who want to work as they go to school. Honestly, the program is intense and reading that some people attend school that are very short bothers me. There's no way in hell you can go over all this material in a shorter time, I study so hard! Make sure you read reviews, research school and check out their NCLEX pass grades. Also make sure it's accredited so you're allowed to take NCLEX right away.

I wonder how each school determines the length of the program. I think my program still stands as the shortest in this thread at 2 semesters (about 8 months total). I have 10 hours of lecture a week, 4 hours of lab, and 15 hours of clinical. Is that more or less than you guys?

That seems way short. What you can do is check the requirements to take NCLEX. It should tell you how many hours of school you should have attended to be able to apply. It should be the same hours that are on your contract or just calculate yourself. But even if it's long hours, I have no idea how you can learn all that info in 8 months, I hardly manage and my program is 15 months... But we also didn't have pre requisits, so..!

Many people I know have gone to the school I'm going to and did fine and now and received jobs quickly. It's tough but worth it! Thanks for the tips!

The LPN program I start in the fall runs from Aug to May, and has a very, very high NCLEX pass rate.

My program is 11 Months and I start July 8th!!!!
