So I was terminated from a hospital earlier this year... So my dad's friend is a nephrologist who spoke to someone in the system (I am guessing somebody with power) and he told my dad they were going to call me. The nephrologist friend doesn't know that I was terminated from that hospital system this earlier this year.... (didnt want him to know that)
How do I explain to the hospital that I want to work for them again? I ask this because I know they will know, or if they don't and hired me anyway..the orientation staff will recognize me and put brakes on the whole process. So it is better to be upfront. I was terminated for not passing PBDS and behavior. I don't want to get into details but it wasn't towards a patient directly or anything physical or hurting anyone. Honestly was more like me venting to my preceptor I guess? From a new, stressed and young first time professional I found myself in a difficult situation...I definitely learned to just run my mouth at home and shut the **** up at work.
I don't know where this will go...I NEVER harmed a patient or anything so I am hoping in SOME way that will kind of lessen the tension....or not I don't know..Please help and let me know honestly if there is even a shot at getting back in. I really learned BIG TIME.

Well, even if the nephrologist friend spoke to someone who is going to call you, not knowing that you were terminated from their facility earlier this year, wouldn't you still have to fill out an application, and if so, wouldn't they know right away based on your personal information like your social security number? I can't imagine that the application would get to the interview stage without them figuring out that you worked for them recently, and often times when someone is let go their name is put on a "not eligible for rehire" list, depending on why they were let go, e.g. an issue that required discipline vs. being laid off due to chronic low census.
Just based on what I've seen happen with people who were terminated from various facilities, it's not likely that they would hire you again. Even though you deeply regret what you said and learned a hard lesson from it, they don't see it through your eyes, they only see the deed itself.
I think I would look for a job elsewhere. You are sadder but wiser, and now you can have a fresh start somewhere else where you have no record of being terminated.
Good luck!

It doesn't seem very fair to your dad's nephrologist friend to let him go to bat for you without knowing all the facts.
"How do I explain to the hospital that I want to work for them again?"
Since you were terminated, your desire to work for them is really irrelevant.

PBDS? Is this a drug screen? If so you're lucky they did not report you to the BON and that may still happen.

I feel like I'm missing some of the story here, but from what I AM seeing......forget it. Tell your friend to drop it. The ONLY way this place will be interested in taking you on again is if YEARS and YEARS have passed and you have an outstanding resume with shiny certifications and specialty experience to share.
New grads are a dime a dozen, and you blew it during your preceptor period? Bad move.
So what to do now? Expect they'll run from you. And putting your friend into the mix isn't fair.

PBDS is a competency test usually reserved to test the knowledge of traveling nurses...or so I thought. I would advise you to call your dad's friend stat and tell him what's up. Do you think you could pass the PBDS assessment again? Are you being proactive and studying? I have a feeling this may crop up again where ever you go.
This is a bad situation you put the kidney doc in. If you let the doc go ahead and talk to the board or whatever without explaining the situation you will be viewed as extremely unprofessional. This will lessen the possibility of ever getting rehired. Remember, it is who you know but in this case you must be able to to pass that test.

All you can do is give it a try and hope for the best. The worse they can say is no.

PBDS is a joke. No new grad should be expected to pass it anyway. Most travel nurses will refuse contracts at facilities that administer this bogus designed to trip you up pass fail test.
If you want the old job back, it's not impossible. The nephrologist brings in $$$ so ask for a cushy job in PACU, or cath lab.
Keep your chin up.
If you want a really decent entry level job, in a very cold part of the U.S., with housing included, let me know.

The right thing to do would be to take the friend of the nephrologist out of the middle immediately, unless, you know for a fact that this friend has the ability to remove the "not eligible for rehire" black mark from your record. It behooves you to contact this person and come clean with him. He might not want to support you if he were aware of all the facts and that is his prerogative.

You should have been honest with this person from the start. Embarrassed or not. How foolish they look when they go to bat for you, and then are told you were terminated for poor behavior. I'd be upset if I were them, and would look at you differently from then on. To me it doesn't sound like you've matured much.

You must immediately call this doctor and be honest with him.
Agreed. He is going to feel and look like a fool for putting in a good word for someone who got fired for bad behavior. If I were him and I found out that you asked for a recommendation after you had recently been fired from the same facility, I would be very upset and embarrassed. This is not a fair thing to do to someone who is a friend of the family.
