How to File a Complaint against BON

Nurses Activism

Published

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever filed a complaint against the board of nursing or is there a way to file a complaint and with who would you file a complaint?

Honestly, how often do you actually go online with your BRN and check just in case, to make sure you are actually still licensed when you know you sent in the form, had all your CEU's and correct fee etc...Been doing it the same way year after year, never moved or changed your name etc...? Seriously, without any reason to suspect, do you go online and check the status, just because?

Yes, I do always check to see if they have renewed my license after sending in everything.

thanks, old computer, dying keyboard. i mean really old, 12 years at least, a lap top, this one wan't working....thinking of a Mac in the near future. anyone get a refurbished one?

Yup. Try Ebay.

I guess my point was that if I have no knowledge of doing something that would make my license be suspended...or put it this way....If I had done all I am supposed to do and then find out it was suspended, how would I know to check? When renewing and submitting paperwork for a legal document that grants permission to perform a legally regulated task prudence would dictate frequent checking of status.

Ignorance of the law is never an excuse.

You should make it your BUSINESS to know when your license expires. As someone whose license expired because I wasn't notified, I still admit that it WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY to know when my license was coming up for renewal.

People, own your actions. Or inactions, as the case may be.

Again, I guess Im not making my points clearly enough.

I know it is my responsibility and of course I check that everything went through as expected, to be sure. I'm saying that after having done that, do I go online periodically to keep checking after my new license is received and so on, just in case? Maybe I misunderstood what the OP was saying. Seemed like he was saying he did everything expected, and then surprisingly, he discovered that in fact, his license was revoked...without notice. Again, I assumed he had the same address, etc...

If I screwed up a date or something, and this happened to me, I would know why it happened and wouldn't be on this site asking for advice. Am I assuming too much logic here? I try to think logically and wouldn't expect an issue if the person did all that was expected/mandated. IF there was some snafu that occurred, AFTER I had done all that is my responsibility to do, continued working for several months without a license, and then out of nowhere found out my license was revoked for no reason I could honestly know about, Id be very upset.

There must be more to the story than what was posted.

Okay. Point taken. How often do you actually go online and just for kicks and giggles, make sure you are actually licensed? Seriously....once you do all you are responsible to do, and receive your re-newed license in the mail, do you then go online and make sure periodically ? Not being snarky...how often do you do that and what do you recommend?

I know you were asking another poster, but I check right after licensure and at least three times during the effect of licensure-I checked myself recently.

I don't do that, but I do keep a professional and educational experiences binder that has license expirations up front filed under tabs that organize by expiration date. My BON says they'll send a notice 90 days prior to expiration, but I know they suck. So I check in on my binder for it, and everything else that expires.

You really have to own your actions or inactions. The only person on this planet responsible for you is you. If you're going to mess that up, no one is coming around to fix it.

I only check when the date should be updated to make sure the BON didn't screw up.

In my state, they no longer mail paper licenses (unless it's your first one). So the only wayt to verify that your license renewal went through is to check it online.

I have spoken to a lawyer. She is backed up with similar cases. I mostly just want to be able to file a complaint. They are very rude, for example, just hanging up when they don't know how to answer your question. Well after I asked if there was someone else there that could answer my question. I was asking for honest help and was not being rude.

Have had the same experience and MORE! Can't believe they get away with what they do to some. PM me is you want to discuss this. If you find some sort of "action" regarding the BRN/BON's such as a citizens action or class action suit etc....PLEASE let me know.
