How to File a Complaint against BON

Nurses Activism

Out of curiosity, has anyone ever filed a complaint against the board of nursing or is there a way to file a complaint and with who would you file a complaint?

In my state, they no longer mail paper licenses (unless it's your first one). So the only wayt to verify that your license renewal went through is to check it online.

Illinois? They don't send license plate renewal notifications out anymore either.

I have spoken to a lawyer. She is backed up with similar cases. I mostly just want to be able to file a complaint. They are very rude, for example, just hanging up when they don't know how to answer your question. Well after I asked if there was someone else there that could answer my question. I was asking for honest help and was not being rude.

There's a saying: Pick your battles wisely, you can't win them all. This is not a battle to fight. Let it go. You perceived rudeness, maybe they were and maybe they weren't.

Why are you letting your job do your renewal? It as simple as 1/2/3 online to do yourself. Never, never let someone do something so important. I treat everyone the same on these types of issues. Whether I trust them or not,"No one is as good as I am"about getting things done. This is my motto and has been for years. If you want something done or done right do it yourself...It is something you should always remember!

After reading some more you should ALWAYS know when your LC is due. That is a date that should be burned into your memory. When I pay for mine I always check a few weeks later to make sure it is ok. They do get backed up. But once they except your payment it is really a done deal. You have your proof.

Texas

Unless it has changed recently, Texas sends out no licenses. Not even your initial one. Been that way about 8 years.

My board of nursing was very disrespectful to me, but that is just the nature of speaking to people who work in customer service oriented postions, including nursing. People are people everywhere.

So what if they violate your ADA rights? What if they reprimand you for a disability that they knew about since day one? Complain then?

ADA complaints are handled by the office of civil rights for the US Department of Labor. Reprimands for disability by a board of nursing are a messy area as the priority is to protect the public. If a nurse is an uncontrolled diabetic that suffers from chronic hypoglycemia and frequently blacks out the BoN would be right to suspend the nurse's license and mandate medical review. So would the department of motor vehicles

The example you give is extreme. The ada 'disability "is for "supposing " something might happen. with no proof of anything.

BTW if you THINK the BON's are protecting anything but hospitals you are very mistaken.

anyone that really knows what goes on, please weigh in here, no disability "guessing " the future

so using your logic who is the BoN "protecting" when disciplining a nurse who never worked in a hospital? Only worked home health or only hospice or only LTC or only outpatient? The majority of discipline in my state is for lying about CEU timely completion, failure to disclose arrests and/or convictions, DUI/substance abuse, narcotic diversion, or criminal conviction of crimes against patient (more often CHHA but LPN anc RN too) of funds, items, or medications of a vulnerable patient in a home environment. Or HHA agencies nor following laws to protect vulnerable home bound patients either supervision or screening of field staff. How are any of these actions protecting hospitals? I'm honestly curious.

The story about Nurse Strom (Canadian nurse ) is all over the web, she posted on her fb another hospital where her grandfather was hospitalized. all true , some good stuff . She has sanctions against her license, now for "unprofessional conduct". The BOARD in Canada is PROTEcTING the hospitals reputation. NOW is a nurse is working for a company say Banner, and they fire her / him for BS reasons , they will turn it over to the BON , so the nurse will not have the energy or the money to sue them . (IF a complaint goes in on your license they require you send in EVERY PLACE you have worked your entire career, (some states 10 yrs ) WHY??? so they can witch hunt. If the complaint is about say a real case , fired nurse on her lunch break learned her teenager gave chocolate to the dog who **** all over the house, the nurse told her husband "sometimes id like to kill that kid" Well escort out with security and fired. IF the nurse makes waves, report to BON. Like I say a nurse speaks up and a witch hunt goes on, the board has members on staff at hospitals, and does this all the time!! how is that protecting the public. Your right about the drugs, and duis , biggest thing before the board. BUT then again the punishment depends on what facility she works at , do they want to keep her/ him/ ? since a friend screwed over I watch every board meeting and see the ** . there is so much more but the ones who know the least about how the boards operate is the nurses. ARIZONA STATE BOARD OF NURSING CORRUPTION WATCHDOGS. Most hospitals have their own home health agency, believe me it depends on who owns it , small company they dont care. One nurse had her brother in the car he knocked on the door to use the bathroom, nurse fired board complaint. SHe was anther one who was not Bannerific . I see very few nurses from HH in front of BON , but it can happen, just depends on how big , who owns it, and runs it,most facilites have a member on the BON , ever notice that. ? the college that is failing terrible has a mgt member on the BON , (they are the ones who give sanctions ) so she goes along with what ever they want , because she wants her college to not have sanctions.
