In one of my classes, we've been having tests back to back for the past 6 weeks. I've made B's on most of them, and my class average is a B. Of course I'd rather have an A, but I know I study as much as I possible can and give it my best effort. Someone in my program today said they want tutoring because they're getting B's and want to do better. Would you consider B's worth going to tutoring over, or would you be happy with that grade?

I'd be happy with a B unless I truly did not understand a concept.

Personally I would live with the B, but would continue to strive for an A.
If the person has time to go to tutoring because they want an A or they simply want to feel that they have mastery over the subject, I say more power to them. A more solid understanding now will only benefit them in the future.

For me it's not about the letter grade at the end, but if I understand something or not. If there's a concept I just can't get, then I'm not ashamed to say that I'll go and seek tutoring for it. Heck, I've gotten tutoring when making As because I just wanted to be sure that I was really getting it.

Bs get degrees

At orientation, our program director said if you are used to getting As, prepare to get Bs. If you are used to Bs prepare to get Cs. 77 is passing, no rounding. She only had 1 student in her 12+ years of being director get a 4.0. I had a 4.0. I put that to rest after that talk. I got an A my first semester. My friends who usually got B+/As got Bs and B+. Last semester, the semester where 15 people failed, I got an A- I lost my 4.0 scolarship by 1.02 points. And I felt relieved. I'm not going to fail out of this program, I'm doing well. My friends with Bs and B+s aren't failing out. It's hard. It's super hard and I'm working full time!! Bs are perfectly fine. I'd be worried if someone was close to passing an early class then failed the next, but Bs do get degrees and pass the nclex and some might even sleep better at night that I do lol. You'll all be fine!! Good luck!!

Forget about the grade. Are you fully understanding the concepts? THAT'S what matters. Don't study for a grade. Study for comprehension.

I stopped caring about grades by my second semester of freshman year of college.

"C's make degrees!" Even doctors have an equivalent saying: "C=M.D." one of my friends has a T-shirt that says "75% - that means I know 3 out of 4 diseases, so the odds are good!"
I was always a solid A student. Squeaked though nursing with C's, but I was also dealing with some routine life crises, as one does. And 40% of the class I began Nursing 101 with failed out before the end, so.....I just can't hate myself for that. As long as you are retaining information, don't get too caught up in your letter grades. Aim high, but forgive yourself (and others), if you don't attain your normal.

I was totally going to say C's get degrees so you're just fine.

What do you call the person who graduated last in his class in medical school? Doctor.

It's tough to let go of if you're used to getting A's, but honestly - most of your learning will really take place once you're on the floor and working. Nobody, and I mean nobody, will care what grade you got in school. Not even you. A student who gets a C and passes NCLEX and a student who gets an A and passes NCLEX are both RNs at the end of the day. It is unlikely you'll ever get asked your grades at an interview. All they care about is you passed NCLEX and have a license.
Truthfully, if you pass nursing school with an A - who are you going to tell beyond your family? If you start blabbing that around at work, you'll soon find yourself crossed off the popular list, because *nobody cares*, and you'll just come off as a braggart.
Yes, for your own pride and ego, A's are nice. But I can assure you, once you see people not even get through to the next block, you won't care at all if you have a C or a B, you'll just be grateful to get through.
I do understand how you feel though - most people entering nursing school are A students, including myself. It's been a real wake up call to find myself struggling. My main goal now is just to pass, and to understand the concepts. I don't even ask around what other people get on tests, and I don't share my scores either.
