Hi everyone,

How can I go about finding a job with temporary registration?

The same way everybody else does... by looking at the health regions' websites under "careers" and applying to everything you're remotely qualified for. By reading through the classified in the major papers (which are usually available online without cost) for the cities you're interested in working in, looking for nursing jobs. Be prepared for employers to be very reluctant to hire you with a temp registration unless they've come to you. There's a lot of money involved in hiring a new nurse and nobody has money to spare these days, not even the "rich" health regions.

hi everyone!

very informative thread..

any of you knows what to do or who to contact with when you are gonna ask CRNBC to forward files to CLPNBC? Are fees being made?

i too have been scheduled for SEC but I was refused when I applied for TRV ast November..:crying2:

So as advised, i will try to get eligibility on CLPNBC for me to be ablle to attend the SEC but I dont know where to start.

help anyone?

Hi! i have been reading one of the RNs thread regarding your sister applying for CLPNBC.

I hope you can give me advice! Thank You!!!

CLPNBC and CRNBC are two separate governing bodies. They do not pass applicant information back and forth.

You need to decide if you are an RN or an LPN.

First, I just want to say that this is a very informative thread! I just finished reading through the whole thread, took some time actually.

My question is: I just passed the Philippine board exam (hence my username). Would you guys recommend that I register with CRNBC now? I don't mind undergoing SEC assessment, nor paying the $268 registration fee with CRNBC. I have relatives in British Columbia willing to help.

I have no hospital experience at the moment, because as I said, I just passed the Philippine board. I was wondering if I should start my application to British Columbia now because I know it takes time.

Plus here in the Philippines, it's hard to get a job as a paid staff nurse in a tertiary hospital. I already know of hospitals willing to take me in as a volunteer nurse. There's also a secondary hospital willing to take me in as a paid, staff nurse.

Your thoughts please?

Regarding CRNBC....

Did they follow the recent change in Ielts band scoring implemented by

CIC (citizen and immigration canada) ?

This were the new minimum band scoring guidelines used by CIC .. Listening 7.5, speaking, reading, and writing 6.5 for IELTS...

Unless you already have one, the problem lies in getting a visa to complete SEC..embassy's too strict with this one..search for topics on SEC so you'll see some of the experiences of the posters who applied for visas. hope this helps

oh and congrats on passing the board :ancong!:

CIC usually asks for General training and I can't see any scores on CIC website, however you need to meet college requirements and that is usually Academic level so I would check out the province college website and see what they state their requirements are (most are similar or same as each other)

There's a moratorium on the hiring of IENs in BC right now. You can certainly apply for registration, just realise that you're not likely to find employment. Even if they were hiring, your lack of experience will be a definite hindrance.

Thanks rafaeltoney :) Now the hard part of getting a job begins...

Shucks, I don't have a Canadian visa. I do have a US tourist visa (as if that matters).

Once I register with CRNBC and pay the $268, do I ever have to re-register again?

Does BC only consider as experience, a paid RN job at a tertiary hospital? Coz there are lots of opportunity for good training here in the Philippines, or I can work as a paid RN at a secondary hospital. It's just hard to find a job as a paid RN at a tertiary hospital.

What do you mean re-register? technicaly, you pay 268 to be assessed and recomended for SEC. after that you can either take the exam first or aply for temporary registration for you to be able to work on another requirement - 200+ hrs (cant remember) of supervised employment... Experience does matter. BUt I know of folks here who got jobs with limited experience.. read up on the requirements and do your research on employment opportunities so you'l be well informed of the situation in BC...look at posts by breech, janfrn and silverdragon :)

You have to renew your registration every year here. That means you pay the registration fee (typically between $400 and $500 depending on the province) and file your continuing competency documentation according to provincial requirements every year to maintain your license.

In BC IENs are required to have 250 hours of supervised employment while on temporary registration. This is non-negotiable; finding an employer who is willing to take on an IEN in this economy will be difficult. And of course your lack of experience will definitely be a factor. The employer is the one to decide whether your experience fits with the job requirements. Canadian hospitals are high-tech environments with only the sickest patients being admitted and nurses have to be ready to hit the floor running and know what they're doing. CRNBC really doesn't care if you have experience or not. They only care about your education and competence to practice. And your money of course.
