Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

I applied to Critical Care, Women’s Services, and the regular Nurse Residency program. I got two calls today from two different recruiters, both saying that women’s services and critical care are full. Mostly med/surg positions available

That’s what happened to me !  I was told it would be ICU, but I only ended up interviewing with the PCU ladies.  I wouldn’t have minded, but they require 2 YEARS contract with  the PCU floor before they’ll let you train for ICU.  That was too much of a commitment for me, what if you don’t even end up liking the unit ??

They’ll only let you apply for the new grad residency program

ugh yeah IDK what to doooo. haven’t gotten anything, even a rejection, from MH, Harris Health, Houston Methodist, or St luke’s. I do not wanna accept an offer from HCA but I feel like I’ll have no choice

OMG for the people graduating in May the only thing left is med surg?

For HCA pretty much. And someone else commented that Harris Health is going to reach out for 2nd round interviews for the positions that weren’t filled or declined (aka med/surg)

!Do what’s best for you ! Just know that if you break HCAs contract it’s 5000$ per year you didn’t stick it out !  Have you tried looking into kindred hospitals ?  They have a really good nurse residency program .  One location is in the med center as well

yeah last time I looked the only positions open were for people with their license and I don't graduate until may

You can accept the offer and decline before the start of your job.  I had 2 offers and accepted both because I haven’t made up my mind on what hospital yet
