Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

Published

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

Hey everyone, I'm new here. Just wondering if any of you guys can answer my questions. I'm a little late to applying for the residency programs in Houston because I had no idea they existed LOL. I'm from Chicago, and I'm planning on moving to Houston right after I pass the NCLEX. Most of the main hospitals in Houston, their applications are closed for the residency programs. Can anyone give me any advice, or mention any that are hopefully still open? And if there aren't any that are open, how do I go about applying for a regular nursing job as a new grad? (I graduate in May btw)

I just got an email from TMC Methodist. You have to complete an actual application and then they are holding virtual pre screenings this and next week

Okay soo I just got an email from Houston Methodist TMC saying I qualified etc etc and to fill out the job ID thing etc... well job description says acute care... isn't that med surg??? I applied for ED

I want to say Texas Children's is the only one that's still open as of now and MD Anderson hasn't started accepting residency applications yet

Did anyone else who applied to TCH yesterday get an email this morning that they don't meet minimum qualifications? I got an email but I'm not sure what disqualified me

Did you receive this email after completing step 2 of the application? I would send an email

Thank you, Yes you’re right. I’ve started my application for TCH, and MD Anderson’s HR team told me to check in the first week of April for updates on their residency program. Can you list some that I can possibly apply for in July? I know some have start dates of October and I don’t mind waiting for that as well

I'm not sure about July since the ones that most people in this group are applying for start in July.

I applied for ED as well and got the same thing you did where it says acute care. not sure if maybe it’s just one application for everyone?

I really hope so because that's really not where I want to be at all and I don't know why they'd say ED is available and then just switch it. I would've applied to something else for sure

I agree. I’m gonna try and do some looking around on the job listing too and see if there’s a specific ED one

I see that Baytown and Sugarland have specific like ED and ICU positions posted/open. TMC only has one for OR then one for the acute care days and acute care nights. I'm going to email them and ask for clarification on it. If anyone else gets the email from them about doing the next part of the application please post it in here so we can see if this acute care thing is going to be for everyone aside from OR or not
