Houston Nurse Residency Spring 2021

Published

Hello! I created this thread for those graduating in December who are applying to nurse residency programs in Houston for the Spring 2021 start date. Good luck everyone!!

has anyone received anything from MH sugarland? I received an email saying my application is being reviewed and if I was to get contacted before Oct 14 then I’d go to MatchDay.

I spoke to one person on who did their grad residency at the TMC (not sure what hospital, but it was one of ones above) and was making $36/hr base (plus additional on nights/weekends). Just wondering where these numbers came from if you don't mind sharing ?

I am a May graduate, I have interviewed for HCA and St Luke's already, these numbers came from the recruiters there. My friend started at MH in July and that's her pay. Like I said above, St Luke's pays a differential of $4/hr if in the med center. So that would add up to $35.50 ish. Maybe that's what the person you spoke to was referring to.

Amazing, thank you this is good info to have. And just clarifying this is all in the medical center? As in st Luke’s is the only one that provided differential in the medical center.

Yes, out of those three. I am not sure about the rest of the GN programs. Most places do say that you qualify for a raise after your first year. For HCA, the pay is for 2 years. They make you sign a 2 year contract with them, also, if you live more than 45 minutes away from the hospital you want to work at, they won't hire you.

That's awesome, congrats! Do you mind telling me what units you applied for?

I applied to the ICU & OR. Unfortunately I already accepted an offer somewhere else last week  (I’m a May graduate) so I let them know. Hopefully they give my spot to someone else!

Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know the starting pay at MH, St. Luke's, Methodist, and Harris Health?

I remember seeing on the Harris Health app that starting pay is $28-$30/hr

I applied to ST LUKES - Sugar Land location. I wonder what units are open in that location.

So this last cohort I interviewed for (but didn't make it) they told us that 95% of all residency spots are for TMC. The satellite hospitals don't have a residency program so the people that get selected for those positions have to travel to the med center for training and most satellite hospitals don't like that. So I was told that a lot of times they don't take GNs for that reason. Honestly I think that's the reason why I didn't get an offer, because my preferred location wasn't the Med Center.

Were you given a reason as to why you weren't selected?

Never mind just saw the last of yours post ?

Well I chose the sugar land location ONLY option so I hope they have a residency. Why would they allow us to chose it if they aren’t going to have a residency for it? That’s misleading

I applied to that one as well, I guess we will just have to wait and see.
