Houston Nurse Residency Spring 2021

Hello! I created this thread for those graduating in December who are applying to nurse residency programs in Houston for the Spring 2021 start date. Good luck everyone!!

Hello everyone!

I graduated with a BSN in May from UT Health in San Antonio with a 3.2 GPA. I have been licensed since August.

I have applied to the Spring 2021 cohorts of the following:

Harris Health: I received the GN Packet Checklist early last week. 

Memorial Hermann: I received the behavioral assessment on 09/18 and have not heard anything back. I know that they were only sending those out if you met their basic requirements like BSN and GPA.

St. Lukes: I received their survey last week as well and am currently filling that out.

I have also applied to a few clinics and pediatric home health agencies just as a backup.

I have had issues with finding a job here in Houston as they only take new grads a few times a year, which is so bizarre to me. In San Antonio, their hospitals hire year-round. As a really last resort, I will be applying to University Hospital in San Antonio if I am not offered any positions here.

After doing a little research into last years cohort, I thought everyone would appreciate the following details.

  • Memorial Hermann had match day interviews being scheduled in mid-October for those of us who have done a behavioral assessment.
  • Methodist and HCA seems to have made initial interviews in the first week of October, and second interviews one week later with offers coming out as early as the second week of October. 
  • St Lukes seems to be a little longer down the line, with match day interviews during the 1st and 2nd week of November, but they were being scheduled in the last two weeks of October.

Hey everyone! After reading through the comments I feel better about having stalked my email for the last few weeks! I hope we hear something soon! MH is my top choice!

I applied to both of them I haven't heard anything from Methodist yet. I got the packet from St. Luke's and my application status says "Under hiring manager review"

During Memorial Hermann pre-match day they had a FAQ sheet sent out .. it says “ If selected to interview for Virtual Match Day, recruiters reach out to candidates No later then Friday October 16th” 

“Virtual match day is Monday ,October 19-Thursday, October 22nd” 

 

ST. Luke’s : “Selected candidates will receive a private invite to our NRP Interview Event which is targeted for Wednesday, October 28, 2020.”

 

That’s about all I know but at least it’s some dates for everyone ?

I don't think it was meant to be fully completed, as it gets harder as it continues. Thats usually how those things work.

Does anyone know the starting pay at MH, St. Luke's, Methodist, and Harris Health?

Methodist West has called me about an interview yesterday, so I guess they’re starting to reach out. I suggest to keep your phones close by!

MH is $29, HCA is $28.50, St Luke's is $31.50 (+$4/hr if @ TMC) I am not sure about the others.

I spoke to one person on who did their grad residency at the TMC (not sure what hospital, but it was one of ones above) and was making $36/hr base (plus additional on nights/weekends). Just wondering where these numbers came from if you don't mind sharing ?
