Hot Cheetos are a public health menace

I had a woman come in for abdominal pain the other day. She accompanied by a husband and 3 small children. I walked into the room after reading the triage note in the computer.

There she was, a woman who had the appearance of someone with unhealthy eating habits. On the gurney was a large, opened bag of hot Cheetos. The family came prepared! The only thing missing was the 20 oz bottle of Pepsi.

Naturally she got a the huge workup, and by all appearances, I'm guessing it was a taxpayer funded one. And while I'm on that subject , why in the world are items like hot Cheetos allowable under the federal food stamp program? Oh, multinational corporation lobbyists of course.

Maybe it's us, healthcare providers, who are out of touch. Instead of doing expensive CT scans we should be doing the hot cheeto test. If they can eat those without worsening of symptoms, they are cleared.

Patient preference and satisfaction, after all...

I love flaming hot cheetohs. It ain't easy bein' cheesy. Dangerously cheesy.

Why do you assume she used food stamps and Medicaid?

I love flamin hot Cheetos, AND Pepsi. I admit to unhealthy eating habits if it's fried I will probably eat it, but you would never guess it by looking at me or my annual check up results.

I understand the posters frustration, but we can't blame Cheetos, they taste better than kale chips.

FYI: When a 5th grader eats several bags of flaming hot cheetos and drinks several bottles of water to cool the flaming hotness, the ensuing vomit will be hot pink and will stain the school nurse's floor:nurse:

Did any of you post about FHC's (flamming hot Cheetos) over a year ago?

Someone posted something about their pediatrician said when these FHC obsessed kids are older their arteries (or something??) will be in bad shape.

I showed it to my grandson, got him to limit his intake to "only" 3 times a week.

My weakness is Snickers and diet Pepsi, but in moderation.

I was wondering the same thing. Seems like there's a bit of stereotyping and judgmentalism going on here.

I think about a year ago I posted something but it was about Takis. My pediatrician told me that kids and adolescents who ate a lot of these flaming hot products were developing fatty liver. My son is now wrestling and is on a very strict diet regimen so no more flaming hot anything.

I am a recovering alcoholic and there are times individuals have inaccurate assumptions about my situation, character and integrity. As part of my recovery, I work hard to recognize my own biased or judgmental thoughts or actions. I use a method I call- ""My Side of the Street". When I come across a patient that I notice my own bias, I think about keeping my own side of the street clean. Part of the "cleaning" is to reflect on when bias or judgement is affecting my nursing practice. Also, I find my own faults and weakness keep me very busy on my side of the street without walking down others.

"By all appearances."

The original poster may need to take a break and re-charge his/her batteries and come back fresh and ready to help people that feel that they are in a crisis without worrying about how they buy their damn Cheetos.
