Staff members at Palisades Medical Center have been suspended for allegedly peeking at actor George Clooney's confidential medical information after he was hurt in a motorcycle accident last month.

I'm wondering if this won't be the end of it, and the various licensing boards and the state's attorney has got wind of it and will investigate.

I think they should. Like someone said what's this going to do to the credibility of nursing and all healthcare workers? People have been fired for looking up their non-celebrity friends' records. Why would they not be fired for looking up a celebrity's?

anyone concerned about their own health privacy should go to www.patientprivacyrights.org

Celebrities must so used to having their privacy invaded; it probably doesn't feel unusual for George.

I don't have a lot of sympathy. We all get HIPAA'ed to death on a regular basis. They had to know this was a violation.

And you just know staff educators are going to work this case into their yearly mandatory inservices

Of course it is a terminable offense! We all have that drilled into us on a regular basis, not just nurses, but anyone with access to pt. records.

What I can't get over is the stupidity of these people - Did anyone really think that access to THIS pt. record wouldn't be monitored?!?

maybe it's me, but cathing a male, isn't my idea of sexual fantasy.

i think we need to keep in mind, that it wasn't only nurses who were guilty.

because of this, i'm not sure how much other hosp workers are aware of hipaa violations, i.e., security guard?

i can only shake my head at those who knew of the blatant invasion.

Please accept apologies if this double posts!

who cares what the stupid chart said anyway. I would rather have been assigned to sponge bath duty that day!

I'd like to practice my catheter skills on him

Hey kids, I get the nervous twitter thing, but if you switch our subject's gender from hunkalicious George to babealicious female, how would you respond to your own comments here?

I'm just saying...

I agree . . . . . yuck. Ain't nothing pretty about cathing someone. Nothing.

To me, this is the most senseless reason for any healthcare professional to lose their job. I'm not that curious about anyone's medical condition that I would be willing to risk my job over it.

I would not have looked at his records, but I would have certainly taken a peek in his room to see if it were real that he was, in fact, there. Maybe in a Batman suit, or something...

...after I posted, I remembered we were discussing this in class, and one lady (an LPN) said, "Once you guys start working in a hospital, you''ll eventually figure out when someone 'important' is admitted, you won't have to peek at the chart...word will eventually get around anyway."
