I graduated the LPN program in 2010. I took the nclex and did not pass. I gave up and then forgot about it . I really want to retake the test. Has it been too long? I really don't wanna go back to school

Some of you really need to learn, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. Maybe the poster didn't pick out the best words to use.....you have no idea what she has been through, nor is it our business. She came here for assistance, yet you choose to criticize her.....you took more time to criticize her than help her...... disappointing!

You'll have to refer this question to your state's BON. They will be able to let you know what your options are.

Depending on your state's BON, you may have expired on your time to take the NCLEX and may need to go back to school.

Contact the BON and go from there.

She came here for assistance, yet you choose to criticize her.....you took more time to criticize her than help her...... disappointing!

You might rethink that if you were the OP's patient and she "forgot" to give you your cardiac meds or your insulin, then you went into Vtach or DKA, respectively. But yeah, you're right... Cause being a nurse has nothing to do with being responsible and accountable, right? The OP just screams irresponsible and cavalier to me, but that's just my opinion. This isn't McDonalds where if she messes up your order you just get a new meal, no harm no foul. This is a job where you are responsible for people's lives and if you ask me there is no room for someone who doesn't have the sense to "remember" to retake the NCLEX. Real talk.

It is also a job where you have other nurses back.....She came her for advice, not to get slammed...You have no idea what she has been through....No room for others that just want to criticize and not help......I have known 2 nurses goto school and not do NCLEX and a gal that went to school to be a lawyer, passed and never sat for the BAR exam....life happens....OP probably just chose the wrong words to use in her post.....but hey, let's jump on her when she/he is down...much easier to do than help.....

But s/he's not a nurse because s/he failed, gave up, and is now "remembering" that s/he wants to retake the NCLEX. I'm sorry that I'm not sorry about my opinion. I'm not jumping on anyone, I'm expressing my opinion in a factual way. And I did help her by giving her realistic advice, not sugarcoating it and telling her it'll be OK. We'll just agree to disagree...

Incidentally, just because someone WANTS to be a nurse doesn't necessarily mean that they CAN be a nurse.

She's not really asking for help though, she's asking for sympathy and validation that the things that happened in her life are in no way her fault.

It's called accountability, and she's seriously lacking any vestige of it.

This is also a public chat room, not a support group or therapy session. Whatever someone puts out there is fair game. Not all the members of AN fart rainbows, nor do we feel the need to coddle those who have screwed up.

I suspect that OP realizes she made a huge mistake five years ago. For you to pull the "if you can't say anything nice, blah blah blah" speech is unrealistic and patronizing on your part. We aren't her mother. She's been given the best advise (contact the BON, be prepared to take a refresher course), which she really didn't seem too inclined to accept. At that point, nice stops.

You are really a person to judge. And if you must know I graduated top of my class. I haven never missed a day of work. Worked in hospice for 2.5 years. Never missed a day. I got on here asking for suggestions for getting my license. I didn't forget about my test I chose not to retake it at that moment in time. I guess everyone is just out to judge.

I agree with the other helpful posters on this thread. Contact your BON and school for assistance. It may also be helpful to take a nursing refresher course if there is one in your area. The ones near me are offered at community colleges. Best of luck!
