Hope you can help

I graduated the LPN program in 2010. I took the nclex and did not pass. I gave up and then forgot about it . I really want to retake the test. Has it been too long? I really don't wanna go back to school

You'll have to refer this question to your state's BON. They will be able to let you know what your options are.

Well this statement really doesn't do you any favors or paint you in the best light.

I was going through a rough time in life. I was depressed.

But thanks for your rude comment

How is that a rude comment? You say you were "depressed" (excuse 1), and you were going through a "rough time" (excuse 2). In the world of nursing do you plan to just quit your job or not show up to work when you have a "rough time"? As an RN should I just plan on working a double shift anytime you are "depressed"? You failed the NCLEX and then "forgot about it". Does that sound like a person concerned in the least about their professional career?

You are really a person to judge. And if you must know I graduated top of my class. I haven never missed a day of work. Worked in hospice for 2.5 years. Never missed a day. I got on here asking for suggestions for getting my license. I didn't forget about my test I chose not to retake it at that moment in time. I guess everyone is just out to judge.

I guess me posting I forgot about it was my mistake. I haven't ever forgotten about it. I think about it everyday. I chose not to retake it at that time.

I gave up and then forgot about it .

Well in your original post you specifically say that you "forgot about it". Maybe that's not what you meant but that's what you typed. I'm not judging you, I'm just pointing out the reality of the matter. Here's the thing, you need to take accountability for your actions (which you obviously haven't done yet). Like windsurfer said, you have been making excuses and continue to make excuses. That is not going to get you very far. If I were in your shoes I would own up to the fact that you had a lapse in judgement and made a poor decision, but now you want to get yourself back on track.

Look, eventually you'll come to realize that how close to the top of your class you were in school doesn't matter a whole lot (except for your own personal edification). What does matter is whether or not you pass the NCLEX.

Here are the facts... you took the NCLEX, failed it, gave up on nursing, and chose not to take it again until now. Put yourself in a hiring manager's shoes for a moment, how does that applicant look to you? Particularly when you have a stack of applicants without this 5 year hiatus.

I don't know what you've been doing for the past 5 years, but I guess it really doesn't matter much. Like someone else said, if you're serious about becoming a nurse right now, contact your school so that they can assist you. You may need remediation. Whether you like it or not, the longer you are away from school the worse your chances are of passing the NCLEX. Not that it can't be done, but you most certainly have your work cut out for you.

One you need to find out if and how you can retest..contact ur state licensing board...and then come up with a study plan.....many posts on here what people have done to pass the LPN/RN boards! You may just need a longer time to study.....can it be done, sure it can.....Just come up with a game plan to study and get cracking!! But first find out what you need to accomplish to be able to resit for the exam, sure a quick call/email to your board of nurse or school will work.

As the poster above me stated, you'll need to contact your state's BON to see if you can retake. That's the only way to get a definitive answer. I hope all goes well!
