Before you rush off to the pharmacy to get meds filled with side effects, what are some natural grandma remedies do you know of...please share. I'll go first.

For Arthritis pain:

  1. Take a box of golden raisins. (note: they must be the golden variety, sometimes called white raisins, not ordinary black raisins).
  2. Place the raisins in a shallow container.
  3. Cover the raisins with gin.
  4. Let the raisins soak in the gin for a few weeks until the gin evaporates.
  5. You then eat nine of these drunken raisins a day to help your arthritis.

My mom and I use this remedy all the time and it works.

You eat some yogurt and insert some yogurt! My ob/gyn even recommends this.

I do both too, and it works for me. I have a hard time w/ OTC creams; they often make the burning worse. The yogurt is soothing and it works overnight for me.

Just make sure you buy the kind with live, active cultures. (You're trying to restore natural flora/bacteria.)

For burns, use fresh ginger. Slice the ginger, and apply to the burn, cools it down immediately. It works faster and better than aloe. When DH told me about it I thought he was crazy, but it really works. Now we always have fresh ginger in the house.

Does anyone one know any cure for acne?

Ive tried everything from accutane to differin...you name it i've done it. ty

This isn't an acne remedy but your question reminded me of this. I've had extremely greasy skin on my forehead since I was 15, and I tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it- drying cleansers, gentle cleansers, just water, exfoliating a lot, exfoliating a little, moisturizing it so I'd stop producing so much of my own oil, astringents, toners, vitamins, diet changes, blotting papers, powder, everything! Nothing worked longer than 5 minutes. Then I discovered that a thin layer of milk of magnesia over the skin is a great mattifier! It works better than anything else I've ever tried over the years. Using pressed powder worked okay too, sometimes, but made me break out- plus I'm not really into makeup. This doesn't. I just hope when I'm tanned in the summer that I'll still be able to use it without white streaks showing up on my face.

I PREACH and TEACH that Tea Tree Oil is a MUST for any skin problems and MRSA treatment! That's ALL we use in our home.....

Instead of spending money for the expensive lady partsl yeast products, try boric acid. Follow the direction for making solution.....1 teaspoon to 1 pint of water in boiling water.

Douche with cooled solution two days consecutively. Repeat third day if necessary. When douching, lay on your back allowing solution to bathe your pelvic cavity as much as possible. If you are unable to do this, do a pelvic squeeze when douching then expel the solution.

I have used this for over 20 years........a bottle of boric acid powder is less than two dollars and will last for several years. Usually the two days of treatment relieve the problem.

Another good remedy for insect bites.............

Soak fresh basil leaves in vinegar for two weeks. This makes a tincture. Apply to bites or itching area. If areas are scratched leaving open areas this may sting a bit but the itching will be gone.

Apply avocado oil to skin after using basil. This heals the open areas quickly!

I found these remedies while living in Costa Rica where the biting bugs are abundant. I was so happy they worked!
