While trying to clean an incont pt of bm, he tryed to fling some at me. I picked up the warm, clean soapy water in the basin, and poured it over his bare chest. Oh the look on his face. Whoops... He NEVER was cruel or resisted getting cleaned up again.

Things Patients Have Taught Me NOT To Do
What the Hell is wrong with people.. They have these beautiful babies, then abuse them... I have seen very little of this, THANK GOD, or I think I'd try to do more than just call the authoritories... I'd go out of my mind. This is why at this stage of the game, I take care of the elderly. There is abuse there, but not amount of the little ones. :redbeathe At least I don't have nightmares like the times I did when I reported the parents I did... :redpinkhe

Confess! Whats the craziest force of habit you've done in the "Real World"
As a CNA, I do not check veins, but look at ankles to see if they could be pitted edema for me to report... I do the pillow condom and corners at home, and wash the hands, wrists, and elbows more than necessary. Also knock on all doors before entering. Even the closets... DUH... Once after pulling 2 - 18 hours in 2 days, I fell asleep in the john at work. I fell asleep in my car once, as soon as I was sitting down... was in the parking lot with my keys in the purse, Thank God, and not driving... Hats off to each and everyone of us.

A patient flat out lied about me
Unfortunately I was fired from a job because of resident untruths. This caused me refusal to two other jobs in the future. It has been 3 years, and I now have a GREAT job which I love, but it doesn't take away from the way I felt then. My husband was disabled and we had just gotten good benefits which I needed. It was my word against the resident and the DON would not even tell me WHICH resident so I could defend myself. I was asked if I wanted union rep, and I told the 6 mangmt people in the room during my "exit" review that "why??" it was my word against theirs... It still hurts. My reputation was on the line..

Share The Weirdest Reasons Patients Push The Call Light
I can relate to this... But I get calls from other caregivers, anytime, Where are the Incont. pads? (In the linen closet where they have been for 3 years)... Where did you put my lg gloves? (I HAVE NOT seen your lg gloves!!) Will you pick me up 5 boxes of lg gloves at the office, because I am not going there soon! (OK, I will go out of MY way to drive the 7 miles to pick up YOUR gloves... RIGHT!!! I'll take a call from my little 91 year old ANYDAY... :redbeathe

CNA doing Rectal Stimulation for Fecal Evacuation?

Blindfolding: Is this an intervention or abuse?
This happens ALOT in the LTC where I worked. I was shocked when I started working as a CNA that co-workers could change residents and NOT SAY A WORD to the resident, but talk to each other over the resident. I think if I was awoke, brief taken off me without an explaination, I would go to battle too.... I think if we showed more respect to the elderly, demented, it would make our jobs alot easier.....:redbeathe
