  1. Hi all I just want to share my concern, vent and perhaps get advise for those with more experience. I have been a nurse since Jan 07 untill now working in the ICU. I started there and absolutely love it and feel like a sponge learning evryday. My problem is that I am too anal about everything and I worry alot. I worry about everything in my job. For example, forgetting to document something, or to report an abnormal lab. Even if I do it all. I still question myself if I did the right thing or if I've done enough. When one of my patients go bad, i worry and feel like it could have done a better job taking care of them even though it's common in ICU for patients to deteriorate. I go home and think about my patients. I worry about malpractice..etc:uhoh3: My question is: Is this going to end? Is it because I am new? Any input??? Frustrated RN
  2. My worest fear is sticking myself with an infected needle accidently:uhoh3: . It freaks me out everytime I think about that:eek: .......
  3. Age should never be a matter when it comes to education. Like another poster said, people will respect you for your knowledge, competency, and professionalism. I am 21 yrs old finishing my BSN this year (through an accelerated program) and planning to work for 1 year to meet the requirement to apply for NP school. So by the time I am an NP, I will be 24 or 25...... Good Luck
  4. Hey guys. I always wonder how would you handle a rude patient or a family member who think they know everything and are just being bossy. Some of your stories showed really unbearable comments and demands from rude pts and their family. How do you put them in their place in a polite way?? I am just curious, I'll be an RN next year and wanted your experience on that.
  5. You guys always crack me up, so I came up with this question to hear more funny weird stories. What were some funny, stupid, or weird reasons patients push the call light for? Are you supposed to go to the room right away or how does it work? I will be an RN next year and interested in knowing more about the actual daily life w/ pt. Here are some of the best... 6. Congrats, :) :Melody: we are all happy for you. I am also intersted in knowing the general profile of accepted students. Any advice because I am planning to apply to the same school???
  7. Sorry That you have to deal with that... This actually kind of scares me too because next week I will be signing a contract that sounds the same like yours :uhoh21: . A forgivable loan from Kaiser if I work for them 2 years post graduation. If I break the contract I have to pay back the money with a 10% interst rate within 2 years. They also said that they will not under pay me. This is scary, maybe I should have them mention on the contract about this salary thing before I sign it. Let us know what happens. Good luck :)
  8. Yes, Iwill actually be graduating in 2006, I am in a n accelerated 18 months program sponsered by some hospitals including Kaiser. Please let me know their new grad pay scale because my contract is with Kaiser and I am really curious. Thanks
  9. I am just curious about how much roughly do you make if any of you work as an RN at Kaiser? And also how is the working environment for nurses there? I got some kind of a sponsership from them where they give me a forgivable loan to pay for my nursing school if I work at any of their hospitals for 2 years post-graduation. So I wanted to get some real experiences or ideas if you know? Thanks
  10. Congrats on graduating soon. You made it Don't worry, time will go by fast. I was wondering where did you get your cute scrubs from? and what color?
  11. What kind of work could you do with a PhD in nursing sciences? could you have any clinical jobs. I have noticed that most Phds in nursing work as college professors (which isn't what i would wanna do!). I am intersted in studying further and get a phd in nursing but need to find out more about careers for it.... any idea?
  12. Hello everyone, I am new to this site. I will start nursing school next week . So excited and can't wait. Nursing has always been a dream for me. There is one thing that scares me and I have read a lot about it. Needle sticks and potential infections. Is that something common that happens in the hospital. how can you really prevent hurting yourself? I am always scared of thinking I could bring a disease home to my husband and kids :uhoh21: . How about Resp. patients. Do you wear masks everytime you walk in their room? any idea?
