Before you rush off to the pharmacy to get meds filled with side effects, what are some natural grandma remedies do you know of...please share. I'll go first.

For Arthritis pain:

  1. Take a box of golden raisins. (note: they must be the golden variety, sometimes called white raisins, not ordinary black raisins).
  2. Place the raisins in a shallow container.
  3. Cover the raisins with gin.
  4. Let the raisins soak in the gin for a few weeks until the gin evaporates.
  5. You then eat nine of these drunken raisins a day to help your arthritis.

My mom and I use this remedy all the time and it works.

Dh's Italian grandmother's cure-all was blackberry brandy.

Tummyache, sore throat, ear ache, etc. She would give them a capful or two to sip at.

I have tried it for my upset stomach and it seemed to work. Dmil wanted to give it to ds when he was sick, but I nixed it. He wasn't even two yet. Besides, she wasn't the one who was going to have to clean up his puke.

LOL, maybe not a "home remedy" per se, but I have extremely itchy allergy ears. I started using this stuff for itchy dog ears called Zymox and my ears are soooo much better.

I even told my mom (a pharmacist) about it, and she's going to get some too, as she has the same problem.

Ginger of any type for nausea, particularly morning sickness. All the women in my family swear by keeping ginger biscuits by the bed when in the early stages of pregnancy. Eat them before you even get up.

Mint/ Peppermint for any gas/ bowel issues. Aloe Vera is also good for bowel issues; you can get it in liquid (yuck!) or capsule.

Olive oil and mild heat for ear ache.

Tea tree oil for cold sores (oral only!), apply neat as soon as you get the 'tingle', if you don't have tea tree oil use an ice cube against the lip for at least 10 mins and then get Tea tree as soon as poss.

For head lice, after you get rid of then a tea tree shampoo keeps them away. But never use the oil neat on your head! It will burn you badly.

Honey, on all cuts and wounds, if you can, get Manuka honey. This has been extensively researched by Dr Peter Nolan, senior lecturer in Biochemistry, of the Waikato University in New Zealand. Lots of papers on line re: studies and results.

I have also used it on a patient. Without going in to too many details, 18 mths post op unhealed, stinky infected, tried everything. Enlightened consultant advised honey, we laughed; it was several years ago, before the research was easily available. Within 2 weeks of daily dressings, beautiful clean small scar. Been a convert ever since, and converted many others. Manuka is the best, but any honey will help.

Any joint pains 1-2 teaspoons (5-10ml) of honey in apple cider vinegar. You can dilute it with some water, personally I find it most palatable with about 30mls of sparkling water Take daily. Warning it will speed up your digestive system for the first day or two. But after that no problems. Oh and when I first started this I lost 1/2 a stone with out even thinking about it. Sadly it didn't keep it off. . . . . . . . . . :crying2:

Sir Ranulph Fiennes the guy who ran 7 marathons in 7 days swears by it.

For a cheap face pack: Aspirin contains a beta hydroxy acid, the main component of expensive designer exfoliators/creams. Cost of said products: upwards of £40. Cost of aspirin mask: pence. Get six plain, uncoated aspirins. Crush them with the back of a spoon. Mix with water to make a paste. Put the paste on your face. Leave it for 10 minutes. Rinse off, massaging to exfoliate as you go. For God's sake, keep your mouth and eyes shut. Pat face dry. Open eyes. Look! Your skin looks about a million times better. Use once a week, twice in an emergency.

And a dab of it on a possible spot is a wonder.

:yeah:

Thanks for responding everyone. Im learning alot!

I've heard yogurt can cure yeast infection (yikes).........

Yeah. One of my old bosses swore by that. She would put plain yogurt on a pad for a day or two it was gone. I know I eat more yogurt when I feel one coming on to replace the good flora.

Oh, also.... coke slush for nausea/vomiting! Our pediatrician gave us this one.

Pour regular coke in ice-cube trays and place in freezer. (Freezing gets the carbonation out) Feed yourself (or your kiddo) a teaspoon of slush. Wait 15 min. If no vomiting repeat... Q15min for as long as you want. If kiddo does vomit, wait 30 min and try again.

We used those teeny tiny cube trays (cubes the size of a gumdrop) which were perfect for little people to suck on, tastes good and soothing too.

Hope it works for your family as well as it has for ours. :redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe

clove oil for toothaches or post-filling pain, plain yogurt does work great for yeast infections...use it just like monistat.....much cheaper

Gosh, I wish all these home remedies worked for my nausea/ morning sickness....I tried them all.
