holiday pay this year-what??

Published

So since Christmas Eve/Day and NYE/Day fall on Saturday and Sundays this year we are not getting holiday pay because there is already a weekend differential...what?? How does this even make sense! big thumbs down! Is this how most hospitals are handling holiday pay this year?

Hourly staff gets 2 1/2 times their wage where I work, but there is no weekend differential. Oh, and you have to be fulltime. Loved working holidays when I was hourly.

Whats with this complaining? You have a job. You get extra pay for working a weekend. You want extra money on top of extra money because its considered a Holiday? What about those that dont observe the holiday? should they not get holiday pay because its not a holiday to them? suck it up princesses working holidays is pretty much the standard for being a nurse!

At my hospital- those who work on the actual holiday (Sunday 12/25 and Sunday 1/1) get time and a half for the holiday. The hospital is observing the holiday on the following Mondays so all managers, clinic staff, educators, etc. get that day as a holiday. The rest of us get straight time for those days.

We get double pay on 12/24, 12/25, 12/31 and 1/1 plus the weekend diff which is $9/hr plus my night diff which is $5/hr. And we also get paid the 8 hrs of holiday pay (if you're off that day).

Re: a comment referring to 8 hours of holiday pay... Why is it nurses that regularly work 12-hour shifts only get 8 hours of holiday pay? I think if people are working the holiday and it's on the weekend, they should get both a weekend differential and the holiday pay. 12 hours of it. Too bad I don't run things.

Where the heck do you work?!? I would LOVE that big of a differential!

Everyone that has to work on the Holiday will get time and a half (not just the nurses). You won't get your differentials because the holiday pay goes off your base pay. We observe 6 holidays a year.

We receive holiday pay and shift differentials.

We get holiday pay (time and a half) plus a shift differential (night), but not weekend differential. I guess they would hate to pay us all 3 :)

We are paid for 12 hours, although we only work 8, at time and a half.

No complaints here.

No weekend diff here, but get time and half if you work on holiday regardless of status. They only pay holiday for three holidays anyway, so would much rather have week end diff all year around!

What is this holiday pay you speak of??? For us, it's just another Sunday. No weekend diff either. I'm not complaining though. I could be asking "What is this job thing you speak of?"
