HI all ,. wanting to become an LPN but work during the Day and cannot find an evening class anywhere (I am in Kissimmee but will travel!) So considering the Ma . Is this even close to being an LPN or a step in the wrong direction? do yu get to work with patients at all?? Thanks in advance going crazy!!!!

being an LPN, you will have wayyy more experience with patients than a medical assistant. with LPN, you have the opportunity to bridge into other programs, LPN-RN RN-BSN.. ect. with MA..you're stuck..unless you go back to school to become a nurse...i think its verry backwards. im not degrading medical assistants but in regards to patient interaction, id stick with the nursing route. most MAs i see only give injections, and basic vitals. and thats it. then they go file charts. but its completely up to you.

Oops.

I would go for the LPN, most definitely.

I would say R.N! LPN's do too much work and dont get paid the way they should..BUT if you must definitely LPN over MA..

Do the LPN. I have a friend in my Bios class that paid way to much for her MA and is now going into the nursing program. Don't get me wrong, she likes being an MA, but it does not afford the same educational opportunities and she doesn't make near as much as an LPN.

Keep looking! :)

Do the LPN ! Both programs are one year so mine as well be a nurse !

I was a medical assistant before becoming an LPN. It depends on what office you work for. Yes, some offices DON"T let you do very much. BUT, at my office I got a WHOLE LOT of nursing experience, possibly because I was in nursing school while working at this particular office, they knew what my goals were. But again, this varies office to office!

I worked as a medical assistant before becoming an LPN only because I was a high school senior and they don't offer practical nursing programs to seniors. haha! But defenetly go for your LPN or even RN! I agree with the above poster! LPNs DO work very hard and are not compensated the way they should! If you need a shorter program, go for an associates in nursing! Then you will be able to sit for the NCLEX-RN!

Hi Neighbor,

I also live in Kissimmee, but I am not aware of any LPN programs in the evening in Kissimme or Orlando. However, may I suggest an RN Program. Since you don't mind traveling, Seminole Community College offers an evening RN Program. I am attending the school myself, currently working on my pre-reqs. Good Luck in whatever you decide

do the LPN.. then you can become a RN if you want .. being a ma you can only be a ma.

Definitely get the LPN license. You will find more job opportunities and will have the opportunity to enter an LPN to RN program. Limited job prospects for an MA and almost all job listings require experience whereas there are LPN jobs to be had for a person who doesn't have experience yet.

LPN-def. MA'S are locked into doctor's offices. I wish 10 years age I had just done what I really wanted to do and gone into nursing, instead of getting my CMA and hating it. Nurse's have many more opportunities.

HI again , Thanks for your advice I have checked out sem college they said the Altamonte campus offers the part time RN. Do you know if you have to be an LPN already , just don't want to take all the pre classes and be told no!! How are you finding the entrance requirements to be? Are you planning for the Jan class? Also one more thing it says you get an associates degree when your done is this a different way of taking the RN than usual? thanks for your help!!
