Hi there.. I hope someone could enlighten me with this..
I recently passed the NCLEX RN CA and will be taking the IELTS real soon. I'm in the Philippines and I don't have an SSN. Thus, I was informed that they cannot issue me my license. Add to that, they would destroy my file 3 years without their receipt of my SSN.
I don't have any idea on what to do next. How do I get this SSN? Am aware that they cannot issue me SSN since I'm not a US citizen nor have I ways to go there. Should I just find an agency to do all the works for me or should I apply for my visa screen? Cause I was thinking of applying for my visa screen first before I find my agency plus I will be starting work only only next month.
Can someone tell me the process of how to get a visa screen? The steps and who to contact, through the internet perhaps. I really have no idea how to do it.
Another thing is my family's suggesting to transfer my license to another state..Again, how do I go about it? Is my license needed before I can apply for reciprocity..I was thinking maybe NY, Florida or Chicago.
I'm sorry I have too many questions..I hope many could reply to my queries. Thanks in advance
Hi... I've been reading this thread and I just want some clarification...Once I've managed to get licensed in another state that doesn't require SSN, that new license could expire in 2 yrs right? And chances are I wouldn't be able to get it renewed without an SSN.
So, I could wait for an SSN issuance before I can renew my license. My license will be expired but I still have a chance to renew it anytime I want right?
Hmm...Better than taking the NCLEX exam all over again.
OKay..I am so glad I read this site again.. I wanna help..:typing
I have renewed my NCLEX result 2X already. I am a California Passer. Took the exam May 19 ,2005....My agency helped me renew my NCLEX result 2X and of course I did some emails to the Ca BON too. I emailed them 6 months prior to the expiration date ..Have done this twice...WHICH I hope could be renewed again next year...
My application for the visa is in the NVC with a priority date of 2007...so I am waiting in queue....Good luck:)
VT actually has additional requirements in place of one is wishing to get a license thru them and they originally went thru CA; specifics are listed on their website.States are changing their requirements all of the time now and the majority are going towards not issuing a license until one has the SSN#.
And you really do not need the license until then, or you are just paying for the renewal fees. As long as the state does not discard the file after a certain number of years, then there should be any worry.
So just do not look at VT if you are not going to work there. You will not be saving anything by going thru them at all.
Well, suzanne, I am glad I read your comment here..I was getting afraid that my priority date in the NVC would mean 2012 would be the year my visa will be approved, so I decided to start applying for transfer of NClex to Vermont since that was your suggestion I think one yr. ago too. But, too my surprise, the California sent me a letter again this Month that they have extended my NCLEX result to up to 2010. They have extended it already to 2009 last yr. I am so happy about this thread.
I will wait for another year again....until they get tired of renewing...until then...I would finally transfer to VERMONT.. Is this correct?

Hi. That's good to hear that your Cali application was renewed 2x. How did you go about it? Which person did you address the letter to? I want to know how 'cause mine is only valid until April 2010; unfortunately, with the way things are going now, I don't think I will be able to provide them with SSN next yr or even few more yrs from now.
Thank you! Hope to hear from you
Hello...well..you need to look for the website of the California Board and You need to start at least 6 months prior to your expiration date and not earlier for they do not have time to review it if it is too early....Okey?? Are you from the Philippines?? Just text me.........Am I allowed to give my number here??

yup i am... how can i contact you?.... thank you very much... I can't give my email here.
Actually, I emailed the Cali BRN and asked about my lack of SSN and, surprisingly, they replied after almost 3 weeks hehe... Anyway, this was the reply I got:
"The letter we sent, which advised you of your passing result, indicated that you had 3 years from that date to provide a Social Security Number (SSN) to our office. If you do not have an SSN by that time, you may contact our office and request an extension of your file.
A request for a file extension may only be made within three months of the expiration date."
But, I will still apply for a VT license. There's nothing wrong with it anyway, just another additional expense on my part.
By the way, I still need your advice on how you went about the extension with Cali BRN, like to whom did you address the letter, etc.
Thank you so much!

Yes you can do your CES to get your license sorted. VSC is a requirement you will need for your visa and you may want to hold off getting that until you know things are moving with the visas, if it takes longer than 5 years for you to get a visa (strong possibility at the moment) then you will have to renew it. Your documents that are sent for CES can be used for VSC
Hope this is a bit clearer for you
