Hi there.. I hope someone could enlighten me with this..
I recently passed the NCLEX RN CA and will be taking the IELTS real soon. I'm in the Philippines and I don't have an SSN. Thus, I was informed that they cannot issue me my license. Add to that, they would destroy my file 3 years without their receipt of my SSN.
I don't have any idea on what to do next. How do I get this SSN? Am aware that they cannot issue me SSN since I'm not a US citizen nor have I ways to go there. Should I just find an agency to do all the works for me or should I apply for my visa screen? Cause I was thinking of applying for my visa screen first before I find my agency plus I will be starting work only only next month.
Can someone tell me the process of how to get a visa screen? The steps and who to contact, through the internet perhaps. I really have no idea how to do it.
Another thing is my family's suggesting to transfer my license to another state..Again, how do I go about it? Is my license needed before I can apply for reciprocity..I was thinking maybe NY, Florida or Chicago.
I'm sorry I have too many questions..I hope many could reply to my queries. Thanks in advance

Please take the time to do some reading on this forum. There is no way for you to obtain a SSN# until you have been thru the immigration procedure and are in the US and ready to work.
VSC is obtained thru CGFNS at www.cgfns.org.
Please read the Primer at the top of this forum for information that you need to have before doing anything else. Also be aware that you are looking at about five years before even having a chance at a visa for the US.
There are also other threads here that will tell you what to do about getting licensed in another state since your file will be destroyed in three years.

I had same problem months ago. Now I just got my SSN.
What you need to do is to download a visascreen form, do everything as they asked, waiting for certificate. Once you get Visa Screen Certificate, bring it and your NCLEX result to find a nursing job. Then get an offer, bring VSC and offer to border, apply working visa, apply SSN by working visa, then mail SSN to BRN, you will get your RN licence.
I passed NCLEX last August, just got SSN. BUT I applied visa screen 2 years ago.
Hopefuly my status will give you some picture.
Good Luck!

Unfortunately, this only works for Canadian Citizens because you can easily apply for a TN Visa.
...yeah, you are right.
thank you for your posts.. more reply to come please as i am weighing my options..right now, i am processing application for licensure to vermont..but i don't know what to do next after getting their reply.
Do I still need to register for pearson then eventually schedule for exam? Or I would just skip these steps and have CA BRN forward my score to them?

Once you take the NCLEX exam and passed it, you don't have to take it again.
If you are planning to go for VT, then you just have to apply for endorsement/application. In VT, their application for foreign nurses are the same for Initial Licensure and Licensure by endorsement. In most States, it is a separate application but fortunately in VT it is one and the same.
You just need to send in your copy of test results to them that you passed the NCLEX. There is no score in NCLEX. It's just either a pass or a fail.
Please go ahead and download VT's application (initial licensure/endorsement) and read the instructions.
One member here, interpreted the instructions that the applicant can send in their copy of passing NCLEX themselves after reading the instructions, some just went ahead and just requested CA BRN to send in an official copy of test results ($10 in CA BRN's website) to be sure.
If you will have further inquiries regarding the details, pls. e-mail or call the contact person indicated on the application form for foreign-educated nurses.

You haven't got a license to get a number. That will not be issued until you give Ca a SSN.

did u do the reciprocity application process on ur own? or just got an agency to process it?
Responded to your thread already. You do not need an agency to do it. VT's processing is one of the easiest, if not the easiest among other Boards.
Please check out the link I posted on that reply as well and once you read the instructions, you will know what I mean by easy. Definitely do it on your own.
There actually is not a reciprocity application to be filled out as reciprocity does not exist with licenses; only with the NCLEX exam.
But if you do not have an actual license number issued to you, then the endorsement process/procedure will not work for you. Endorsement requires an actual license number.
You have to do it, your agency cannot do it for you, the documents require your signature on them.
You will be using the License by Examination process and then have the BRN forward your results to them, there is no other way for you to do it.
